About motor vehicle registrations - if your registration expires in December, renew it then - its easier than trying to understand the State Tax Commissions press release on the subject. Sevier County Assessor Stanford Fillmore brought in several items relating to motor vehicle registration, one of them the atorementioned statement from the tax commission. After reading it three times, crossing out some words, adding others, making two sentences out of one, and removing a howevers, the learned editor of the Salina Sun still was unable to get much out of it except the following, which is quoted verbatim: To avoid confusion, the Tax Commission suggests the registrations due in December be renewed at that time. A sample of the tax commissions priceless prose: For those who purchased a vehicle in December of 1977, through the staggered registration program, the taxes are not paid until December, 1978, however if taxes are not paid at that time and are paid in January, the two years taxes are due, one tax for 1978 and one for 1979 as January will become the new registration date. Fillmore suggests that anyone having -- half-doze- n any questions come into his office call. No field assessors will call on Sevier County residents this year either to collect taxes on vehicles or attach them to real estate tax bills, Fillmore, in considerably clearer prose, explained. motor vehicles, or To other personal property for the next (1979) year, persons must bring in the old registration forms to the assessors office where the taxes may be cleared in one of two' ways: by paying at the time you come in, or attaching the vehicles to real estate if real estate taxes are current. Persons who wish to attach vehicles to real estate may bring in the registration from any number of vehicles, regardless of the months in which they come due. Attachment must be done between Jan. 1 and March 1, 1979, Fillmore said.
