Sidewalk deleted from Mutton Hollow project Parking jeopardizes conference center : LAYTON - The proposed $50 million Davis Conference Center complex could be in jeopardy, project officials say, if it can't find parking space. Michael McGurn, development associate with Corporex, old city leaders this month that the complex wouldn't support a seven-stor- y office tower if it didnt have a parking terrace. And without the office tower, McGurn suggested that the hotel adjacent to the conference center might not be pos223-roo- m sible. The way these (amenities) feed off each other is incredible," McGurn said. I dont know, without the office building, if the full-se- n ice hotel makes sense. The city has begun a process toward specifically designating the area as an economic development area. The public will have several opportunities in the next few months to voice opinions and support or opposition. The first hearing on the complex, including the parking terrace, is scheduled for the Layton Planning Commission meeting Oct. 13. 17-st- J'l High LV,14 FARMINGTO- N- At the last minute, the Davis County Commission has pulled the sidewalk out from under Mutton Hollow residents. Apparently, though, that's just what property owners there wanted. Commissioner Gayle Stevenson has recommended that the 2,000 feet of sidewalk planned for Mutton Hollow Road from 492 to 821 East be deleted from the countys $370,000 road rebuild project. Mutton Hollow is the unincorporated county area squeezed between Layton and Kavsville that recently received approval for a township. Rather than fight with Mutton Hollow planning commission members over the issue, Stevenson said, the county should delete the sidewalks from its project until property owners on the south side of the street where the sidewalk was planned can come to some agreement. The information is the first officials of the United Way of Davis County have gleaned from the results of a survey conducted in May. The survey - filled with questions provided by 22 local agencies, including LDS Social Services and County Health - is the first extensive survey of its kind for the county, said Larry Burdett, director of United Way of Davis County. A final report and analysis of the results - taken from 500 randomly selected households, 25 residents visiting human and health service agencies and 253 responses from religious and government leaders - should be available by December. three-pronge- d Commission holds reins on Health Board FARMINGTON - The Da- vis County Commission won't relinquish its grasp on the health department when it comes to hiring, traveling and spending. But Board of Health members feel better about the g after meeting with the commission Monday for 75 minutes hand-holdin- at the county courthouse. For months the health board has battled the commission over the group receiving more autonomy when it comes to hiring personnel, determining who travels and how far, and setting the health department budget. The commission, though, has balked at the request in standing firm on the theme that as elected officials the buck stops with them. were, Cl Ta Sfutu (Money Davis County courtroom goes bats for a day 1 FARMINGTON - For a few minutes Tuesday it was disorder in the Davis County Justice Court. The confusion came from two small bats who showed up on the second floor of the county courthouse, possibly after employees there unknowingly turned the heat up on the hairy little fellows. Workers suspect the bats may have come from either one of the cracks in the exterior of the courthouse, which are in the process of being filled and sealed, or more than likely from the heat vent when the furnace was turned on for the first time since nr 5 C 6 last-sprin- Davis County Animal Control Director De Anne Hess believes the bats may have been looking at the vent as a winter home because that finding such a haven is a part of the mammal's natural cycle this time of year. p L 1 nii ii Efficiency-Energ- y 1300 South to northbound and 1300 South to southbound: Cosed until summer 1999 Alternate route, to use 500 South to northbound and 500 South or 900 South to southbound From southbound use 600 South or 2100 South westbound. a WIbLIYOURICAR SURVIVEiTHE UMMERlHEATi?
