Shops specializing in scrapbook supplies have popped up all over the Salt Lake Valley. And although scrapbooking became popular mainly in the older generation, teens are becoming more and more interested. It is important to preserve memories while they are fresh and new in your mind. I know what youre thinking - you dont have time to put together a scrapbook. What you can do, though, is get a spiral-boun- d notebook and write down your thoughts when events happen. And instead of tossing your pictures into a box, make sure they are dated at least on the outside of the envelope and identified. These few steps can save A LOT of hassle when you do have time to put together your scrapbook newly-develop- pages. - Lakeside Review When I was bom, my mom started putting together a scrapbook of my life. After my younger sister and brother came along, though, she couldnt work on our books as much. She still saved everything - recital programs, awards, pictures - but it was kind of unorganized. Three years ago, Mom got interested in scrapbooking again. She started organizing everything shed saved through the years and hasnt stopped putting books together since. Having all our scrapbooks around the house is a great conversation-starte- and r, theyre great to have when you someone to get to know . you better. " ; With many events in my life, my mom can do a fantastic job portraying how I felt at the time. With others, like the orchestra and band trip to California I went on, she has no idea what to do. This is when I got interested in scrapbooking. With my moms . help, I put together a group of pages about my trip to go in my scrapbook. Actually I think that women are pretty cool, but if you fall in love with one, you might as well kiss your life, money and sanity goodbye. For example, say you meet a girl and really like her a lot. But then you meet her friend and fall madly in love, but the way it ends up is that it only last six days, she wont talk to you, and you cant hit on her friend because you dont want to be a player. Most likely, as in the Jonesboro case, the minors will be sentenced to juvenile detention until they are 18 and can be charged as adults or be released. An adult who commits a heinous crime such as any of these crimes would be sentenced to life in prison or death. So why are minors only getting a slap on the wrist? Is this sending a message that its OK? A child who commits crimes like these at such a young age obviously is very twisted and sick. Is there hope for reform? Or will they simply continue their criminal ways -- when released as adults? In my opinion, minors who arent held accountable for their crimes wjlj continue to use their age against our country's judicial system. The consequence for this lack of accountability may be the creation of adult ' " criminals. expressions. If the person looks interested in you or what you say, go for it. IHEATINGTMAIR & times such as the we are in, it is sad to see, hear or read of minors killing or injuring other minors. In the most recent cases, guns have been brought into schools. Legislators and adults have said that these minors dont know what they are doing. I think that if you walk into a room with the intent to hurt or kill someone with a gun, you know what you are doing. By the age of 9, most children can distinguish the difference between right and wrong. So why cant the children in these and pen ink have acid in them. This acid, over time, eats away pictures, paper and virtually anything else it touches. Many companies now make ink without this acid. Dont be tempted by magnetic pages (the ones where you pull back the plastic, stick the pictures on and smooth the plastic back down). Using these shortcut pages is like kissing your memories goodbye. After about five years, the acid in the glue starts eating the pictures, and after ten years you almost cannot get them off. If you have done your scrapbooks on magnetic pages and you want to redo them, use a hair dryer to soften the glue, and the pictures should peel off easily. If your pictures start to curl when you peel them off, use a hair dryer. Curling means the glue doesnt want to let go, and this can result in ripped pictures. You dont have to be with your pages. My super-fanc- y mom uses colored paper, stickers and rubber stamps, and sometimes frames pictures in different colors. On the other hand, my cousin backs almost every picture and stencils borders on many pages. Always photocopy newspaper articles before putting them in a scrapbook. This is because newsprint has been recycled so much, it fades and deteriorates very quickly, and the ink is not acid-freDont run and hide from the camera all the time. In the future, youll appreciate your mom for not putting down the camera on Prom night, at graduation, at Christmas, at . . . well, you get the point. It may seem stupid or tedious or expensive to take so many pictures all the time, but with so much going on in all of our lives, having something to remind us of happy times is worth iL The next step in starting your own scrapbooks is knowing where to get supplies. Besides the basic office supply stores such as Staples, Office Max or Office Depot, there are many small shops that carry scrapbook supplies. For more stores and locations, look under Craft Supplies in the Yellow Pages. Dont worry what other people say - your scrapbook is great just because of the fact that you did it. Strut your stuff in your own way. The two boys who ambushed the school can only be held in jail until they are 21, but they will be released when they are 18 because there is no facility in Arkansas that holds juvenile criminals once theyre older than 18. The boys can also get their guns back when they are released. killed In Springfield, Ore., a his parents, then went to school and opened fire in the cafeteria, killing two and wounding 22 students.
