Show wum REVIEW 4BBLakeidHj!ev Letters to the Editor Governments proper function is to keep peace , : private enterprise or private groups working together with It would appear that many citizens have forgotten or have never known what the proper function of government is. Ve seem to think that the government's function is to provide whatever the most strident voices clamor for. Facilities. Many want golf courses. Businesses would like special incentives such as tax breaks or special inducements. And some just want to preserve open space for their enjoyment. H their own freely given money, not monies coerced from the taxpay But, we exclaim: If the majority want it, shouldn't the government provide it? That's democra1 cy, isnt it? r1 Democracy has been, described as Two foxes in a hen house voting on what to have for lunch. Many of these desires are worthy and worthwhile, but are not the proper function of government. Tax dollars should only be spent for that which benefits all the citizens. To do anything else is special interest and violates the chickens rights. Pared to the bone, the proper function of government is to keep the peace. Most other peaceful activities should be provided by Richard G.
