Think about it. With todays technology, and the lengths that producers and television networks will go to make a buck, is it possible for a person to be constantly watched? Is Hollywood that sick, and are people that willing to probe so deeply into a persons personal life? This is the question asked in The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey. It is certain that the world today is fascinated with spying on peoples lives, watching every little thing that they do, sucking it all in to fulfill their my moms a stripper needs. People today cannot argue with the fact that we, as teens and as a country, have a need to see somebody confronting who used to be their their girlfriend but was possessed by alien spirits and was told to become a man. Watching this sort of dribble makes us feel complete in some sort of sick and twisted my mom ran off with my girlfriend sort of way. TX. WRITERS WANTED ALL and Allison 1 ! TS correspondent thousands of years it has a tradition for women group together and spend quality time without men. This started hundreds of years ago with the ancient cave men and women. The men would go off to hunt for dinner, and the women would sit in groups picking bugs out of each other's hair. The men never understood this ntual and would stand around looking at each other and shrugging their shoulders. This culture is sull somewhat alive today, that is, all except for the bugs, and is what has led me on a quest to discover the truth about Girls Night Out, Heres what Northern Utah teens said in May. For The Boys: What do girls do on their nights out? They watch girlie movies and talk about girlie things, said Tyler Waterfall, then a senior at Bonneville High School. They watch Steel Magnolias. ", Mart Flink, sophomore, Bonneville High School. They talk about clothes. Ank Coleman, junior, Bonneville High School. They have slecpovcrs, play with dolls, and play Girl Talk Date Line. Chris Vollecr, junior, Morgan High School. They watch chick flicks and cry." Daniel Powell, sophomore, Bonneville High School. They do nothing but talk about guys." Jeff Noms, junior, I remont High School. They conspire against the guys. Evan Smith, sophomore, Bonneville High School. Its a smorgasbord of makeup and shampoo." Jaycub Ungurcn, junior, Bonneville High School. Girls sit around eating cookie dough and complaining about us men. School board By CANDICE HUNSAKER TX corespondent a meeting the of May 14, In became apparent that the members of the state school board were suffering some sort of brain damage. The first to go was State Superintendent Scott Bean, as he suggested the idea of adding one more hour of school to public high school class schedules. Sadly, the other 15 members of the hoard followed in agreement And just this Tuesday, he upped it to 2 2 hours. Although it was just an idea, let us all hope they recover before voting. Its not that students dont want to leam, we just dont want to sit in a hoteolJ classroom ail day staring ahead, paving attention to some teacher who is hotcold and angry just like us. There are different ways of learning besides reading and writing lands-o- n experience is a great way to leam And some kids look forward to work release during their senior year. In preparing for the future, tins is a great way to learn and sec what types of jobs we dont like and what type we do Instead of paying teachers to slay an extra hour or two and teaching kids who don't want to be there, why not set aside the money for scholarships and financial aid1 This year many kids will graduate from high school with to learn and it so bad. The classes we were required to take were going OK, and there is no reason to add to a student's stress by adding more class time. Students have their fair share of work now and need not worry about another AP test or essay that is due. Many students also are to mg to work to earn money for college, car payments and fun money - mom and dad dont have to provide for evaylhing. Trying to he reasonable is hard enough in high school without adding on more undcsircd stress. Education requirements today arc not enough, hut lets not be hasty here. Wliile the school is busily thinking of more ways to bother us and cause heart failure among teens, why not think of other ways to bring up grades, enhance knowledge and prevent mental homes from becoming filled with high school kids? Instead of adding more class time, chat s V J t 1 make the graduation and college requirements harder. Require students to maintain a C- - average and make classes such as I nglish. math, science and computer skills a four-yea- r thing.
