South Davis Firefighters were called to the duplex at 16 E. 250 North around 3 p.m. When crews arrived flames were already coming out of the structures windows, said South Davis Fire Sgt. Jim Rampton. A couple with a small child were living in the upper apartment with the downstairs apartment vacant. Rampton said the family was not home when the fire started. But when they came home they arrived to fire engines outside, Rampton said. The family was not hurt and are staying with relatives who live nearby. Damage to the structure was estimated at $50,000. All alternatives will be con- sidered, Parker said. And from our standpoint, no alignment has been selected. We cant make a decision until we have all the information. Parker said UDOT probably will hold a public meeting for the new, westernmost route and environmental statement some- time in April. The meeting may be structured differently and more formal than past meetings, he said. UDOT held several open houses, where citizens could write down comments and submit them for consideration. The new meetings, Parker ; pre- ferred alignment pushed back the completion date for the high- way to late 2002, too late for the games. However, Parker said UDOT had never set any dates for the Legacy project to coincide with the Olympics. The road does not lead to any Olympic venues or to the mountains and was not likely to impact traffic, Parker said. We agreed we wouldnt have any construction on existing roads during the Olympics, like Parkno work on or er said. But Legacy just doesnt matter to that. We tried to tell everybody the schedule didnt hinge on that. Last week 2nd District Court Judge Michael Allphin ruled there was sufficient evidence to have Allen, 28, bound over for trial. Allen stands charged with capital murder as well as felony charges of conspiracy to commit aggravated murder and criminal solicitation. During emotional testimony at Allens preliminary hearing Jan. 6, George Anthony Taylor and Joseph Sergious Wright both testified that Allen offered to pay them $30,000 to do the job. Allen stood to gain $250,000 in a life insurance policy he had on his wife through the cellular company where he worked. Whether its wishful thinking or genuine confusion, Hansen said people have been hearing false rumors and passing them on about UDOTs plans for the highway. One example was a statement made last week by Rep. Susan Cross, at a Koehn, Centerville City Council meeting, suggesting that the third possible alignment added last week was actually UDOTs preferred route. Although engineers recently added the alignment - referred to as Plan C - to its route choices, there has not been any decision made on a preferred route, Hansen emphasized. He said UDOT will wait until .
