Probably when my grandparents and all of us would get together. My dad had a ranch we would all go to dinner and sit, around and tell stories." Eric Douglas Salt Lake City -- I'm going to go to my mother's for Thanksa lot of food. The family gets together and we eat, visit, talk about what is going on in each other's lives, because we have family from out of town. We just touch base and find out how everything is going. -My most memorable Thanksgiving, I don't know if I really have a most memorable. It is really nice to get together with the family and I just can't say if there was one particular, all are really nice." giving. We cat Lets make safety a driving factor the increasing of auto accidents in including those involving pedestrians, the fingers are being pointed at those behind the wheel. ; And its true Utah drivers do have some bad habits. Insurance statistics show that the state has one of the highest number of per capita accident claims in the country. Still, Utah drivers may be getting a bad rap. Some of the problems related to driving in this state can be at- tributed to road design and pen- - ' When I arrived in Utah a de-- : cade ago I was amazed at the ; lack of island medians in major ; streets and parking lots. I was ; told this was because they inter- fered with snow removal. But I when I visited other big cities with harsh winter conditions I . noticed that didnt seem to be a factor. The mentality here is that ev- -' ery square inch of road must be covered with asphalt with d turn lanes in the mid- left-han- die. Traffic islands may be more i aesthetically pleasing but they al- so have a safety factor. They con- trol the location where cars can turns. In Utah used as a merging lane as drivers race make left-han- d i that center lane v is often down the middle, looking back-wards for a gap to slide over. Now thats not safe driving. Most memorable is eating at my grandmas when all of my relatives came over. I havent seen my relatives forever. That is the last time I actually got to have a dinner with or have even seen my relatives. That was about six years ago. er 776-495- 1. Government Directory LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Coverage of senior dance appreciated Thank you for coming to our FBLA Senior Citizens Dance! We appreciate it, especially since it was on such short notice. We feel like its important for the community to hear about good things that teens do. Thanks again. Camile Hestop 91 Layton I will be working. Im in computers at SPS purchasing, we link people up to the Internet. I should be having the day off. They are going to be paying me time and a half so thats why I am going to work. My most memorable is good turkey, good ham and all my family there and kids running around playing. We have our Thanksgiving, back home (Hawaii) outside. We would have it at the park or in the yard with all the kids running around and parents all around, playing music, talking, stories. But being here is going to be a cold Thanksgiving. It is going to be the first mainland Thanksgiving, its going to be indoors. I like the cold weather myself, being from Hawaii I dont often get to be in the cold and Ive got a fast metabolism so I like the cold weather. It is going to be a different Thanksgiving for me here, because I have no relatives and hardly any friends yet. It will just be me and my fiance and her family. My most memorable is just me and my family and a lot of good food. With And traffic islands can be havens for pedestrians in a sea of speeding vehicles. Lets face it, not all kids use crosswalks. And without the islands they will try to sprint across the entire street. The islands can break up these mad dashes, allowing the kids to only have to cross one direction of traffic at a time. It also helps the pedestrians in the same way. In parking lots, the islands prevent people from driving evby channeling the ery which-wa- y flow of traffic in an orderly manner. Walking out to your car in a Wal-Ma- rt parking lot is like walking directly into the line of fire at a shooting range during a beer bash. But the lack of traffic islands isnt the only road design flaw that needs light shed on it. Where are the dam lights? The Wasatch Front has to be the darkest metropolitan area in the west. The lack of street lights along such major thoroughfares as U.S. 89 is puzzling. Street lights along U.S. 89 are only located where side roads join the highway. While this may help drivers see when a car is getting ready to pull out onto the highway, it actually limits the visibility of the driver trying to turn onto the highway who must try and judge the distance from Darren Lopes Northridge High Commissioner Gayle Stevenson (R) Davis County Courthouse 28 E. I dont really want to go. I probably wont go. I will stay homo with Karen (sister) so she better make me a good dinner. Usually we have my grandparents come over, but we are going to California this year. This one will be my most memorable, because it will be the first time my parents have left me and my sister alone. v C |
