When the Brownings first got Simba at 5 (' weeks old, the kitten was already eating kitt' ten food, but apparently wasn't weaned yet. i1 Bambi became very attached to the kitten and protective of it, said Michael Browning, 14. 1 think it's happy we got the cat. It treats it like it's her little baby." Bambi seems to think she's a cat," says Teri. She climbs the tree with the cat. If the kitten is threatened in any way, she picks up the kitten by the neck and carries it away. She plays with my sisters cat across the street. She seems to think she's a cat. Wayne thinks the dog is crazy, says Teri. He thinks it's pretty neat that the dog is so protective of the kitten. He really likes Bambi." When Bambi started nursing Simba, I thought it was pretty weird, says Raymond, l2-ycar-o- ld age 12. I told my teacher and she said that was pretty normal, then I told her (Bambi) was producing milk, and she never had puppies, and she said now that's weird. You might want to check with a vet." At first Raymond was worried that there was something wrong with Bambi, that if she couldn't have puppies, she was doing this instead. But Bambi is perfectly healthy and so is the kitten. Kami. 8, wakens to the sounds of Bambi nursing Simba in her room. Bambi will come into her room, and Simba follows. I think that it's pretty funny, says Kami. She carries it around by her neck, like a mom cat. Bambi runs up the tree away from a neighborhood dog, and the cat follows her, hopping behind her," says Kami. The dog makes it halfway up the tree, but it's a pretty big tree." Sarah, 4. says the dog thinks he's the mommy, and her favorite thing about the kitten is to see it run up the tree after the dog. Even though Bambi thinks she's a cat, she doesn't bother their chameleon. "I don't think the cat has even seen the chameleon," says Teri. Its up in a tree. The dog knows its there, she says, and Bambi is pretty protective of the chameleon. "It was probably about 2 weeks after we got the kitten that she tried to nurse," says Teri. At first Bambi would get up and walk away, and was apparently hurting when the TiHins WASH 5 IPEV3 W W TOKEI SALE DURING THE MOONLIGHT 4 for HOURS! HOURS: 9 a m. Mon.-- St - 5 p m. "There was no milk, but the dog was very sore. Within a couple of weeks there was milk and the kitten was regularly nursing." she say's. Teri says she probably should talk to a vet. I'm curious as to how she could do that," she says. Bambi has never had puppies or been prepant. The dog milk doesn't seem to be harming the kitten, in fact she's healthy. The kitten was getting her nutrients from kitten chow, but then again, so was the dog. Maybe it's due to her size, but Bambi was always more comfortable with cats than she was with dogs. "She w'ould much rather play with the cats than the dogs," says Teri. The Brownings had an older cat that Bambi grew up with, and Bambi had eaten her cat food from the beginning. They also had an older dog, but Bambi didn't get along with the dog as well as with the cat. "The cat was more her size, and the dog was so much bigger, says Teri. She will not cat dog food, never, says Teri. She eats cat food. When they got Simba she would cuddle up and sleep with Bambi, and she still sleeps wherever Bambi goes.
