"It might 1 because wc are not quite as mature as 1 the adults, she ms.Bui we are kids, wc are out there to have a good time.' student at Tracy Olsen, a 1 6- - ear-ol- d Bonneville High School, adds, 1 am not sure why wc are treated ditfcrently. I don't think that we should be. I may be in high school, but I pay the bill. So. why should I be treated difleremly than an body else? Waiters and waitresses have a different point of view. From their perspective, high school kids are loud, disrespectful, obnoxious and generally bad tippers. Kids just don't seem to understand that I have to make a living off of what they lip me. I can't pay my electric bill on the loose change in some kid's pocket, said Becky from laiyton, a waitress at Red Robin. Don't get me wTong, I do try to serve all of my customers the same way, but it is really hard not to be a little biased when most teenagers just don't tip. (Many servers do not get a pay check; they need our tips. When I was a waitress, high school kids would come in and ask me to run everywhere. I was always getting refills or something else for them, and then they wouldn't up me. It just doesn't make it very fun to waitress for them, and I felt like I'd rather ignore their table and pay more attention to people who I knew would tip me. So what can we as teenagers do? I lore arc a few pointers: Settle down just a little bit. You can have a good time without the entire restaurant knowing about it. Tips used to be IS percent of the bill, but now the percent to tip a waitress that has delivered good service is 20 percent. If you think they didnt deserve 20 percent, then give them 15 percent. But do not ever just leave without tipping your server. Show your server a little bit of respect. If you treat them with respect, in most cases they will treat you with respect. Please and thank you have been working for centuries, so why shouldnt it work in your case? Free refills are a courtesy. Try not to take advantage. Sometimes the servers really are busy, so be patient because they cant do anything about that. By following these simple rules, a mutual respect between you and your server should follow. Every restaurant can be if you know what to do. Kristen Evertsen, a senior at Washington High School , loves the outdoors and dancing. Atmosphere: Before entering the restaurant, a speaker mounted on the outside wall was pumpin out the tunes. There were cool TVs in the floor in the reception area, which was kind of scary, because Dan Rather could look up your skirl. They were playing loud music, and there was no volume on the TV, so it kind of defeated the coolness of the TV in the floor. (- -) The first seats were really high (and they were in the bar), so we felt like we were floating. (- -) When wc asked to be moved to a booth, they were really obliging. Ami, the server, promptly found us a new location. Brandon, our new server, was cheerful and helpful throughout the meal. The previous comment has no bearing on Ami's service. She was good. No matter where you sit, there are interesting people nearby. The walls are decked with posters, relics and other funky garb of '50s, '60s and 70s superstars, music groups and trends, for example Marilyn Monroe, the Beatles James Dean and I larlcy Davidsons. Everything is red. Hence the name, Red Robin. (-) The sports bar is just that; everything on the wall is related to sports. Food: Dave: I thought my food was rather grand. I sampled the Cuacamolc Burger with fries and a tall glass of water. I'd recommend it to any young lad (or lass) who happens his (or her) way over to Red Robin. (Jillaire, a guacamolc connoisseur, approved of their guac.) Jillaire: I had the Shanghai Chicken Skewers. It was a tasty combination of grilled chicken, pasta and vegetables (snow peas, carrots, peppers) with a ginger sauce. (Dave thought it was kind of funky.) While I liked the Chicken Skewers, even better was a dish I previously sampled: Stirfry Primavera. It was similar to the Shanghai Chicken (pasta, chicken, vegetables), but the spices and sauces were more to my liking. The menu has a wide variety of choices for all tastes: burgers, sandwiches, salads, pastas, soups, drinks, and desserts. Prices range from $5 to $12, with most are about $8 to $9. Hint: Bring your parents or a major credit card. Aaah! When will all this madness end? When Joe slipped into those pantyhose, did he know what would soon follow? Namath, who is famous for his arm, sparked something with his super sexy legs. He got athletes started in the acting business, sometimes much to the chagnne of me and my peers. Now it seems like everyone from golf pro Lee Trevino to basketballs bad boy Dennis Rodman have been in some kind of commercial or movie. Whos next? The best twelfth man in the history of the NBA, Kurt Rambis? He absolutely dominated the pine (for those teens who dont speak sports-esthis means sitting on the bench) during the Lakers championship run. Who knows? I do know that sometime soon it has to slow down. Most of the time, the roles are cleverly written and genuinely funny. One example is Space Jam, starring Michael Jordan, the Looney Toons, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Shawn Bradley, Lairy Johnson and Mugsy Bogues. This proved to be a very entertaining movie, although it didnt seem like it was a stretch for these guys to play themselves. However, they did hold their own against the very experienced Looney Toons. Every teenager I know loved Space Jam - its just plain funny. Another example of a good acting performance by an athlete is Dan Marino in Ace Ventura Pet MR- - SnEL&t-UR- B MAYBE W SHOULDN'T WAVE. HIRED SPORT STARS LIKE MICHAEL. It may have started back in the 60s when Superbowl MVP quarterback Joe Namath decided to slip into a pair of pantyhose to show America how nice his legs were. Did this trigger a reaction among the sports stars to follow? Did these athletes think, Hey, Joes legs look great! I think I should do that shoe commercial. Over the years these small parts in commercials evolved into special guest appearances in TV shows, to cameos in GY C.H&ISTIAM Detective. Marino does a fine job of playing himself in this classic Jim Carrey movie. Marino will never win an Oscar for his performance, but he does give viewers of all ages something to laugh about. Golf pro Lee Trevino plays himself in Happy Gilmore. Trevino only says one sentence in the whole movie, but HAUAN)mT he gets his point across with great facial expressions and timeless body language. Jim Kelly, Evander Holyfield, Roger Craig, Ben Davidson and Herschel Walker play convicts from the Texas state penitentiary in the football movie Necessary Roughness. In this film, See MADNESS4 I |
