Bountifuls traffic safety committee is recommending installation of several more traffic signals. I City funds need to be budgeted for signals at 2200 South Orchard Drive and 1600 N. 200 West. In addition, the Utah Department of Transportation should complete its preliminary study for placing signals at 1000 North Main, City Engineer Jack Balling said. He also said UDOT will be asked to review traffic signals timing and coordination at the intersection of 400 North and Main, long a bottleneck and frustration for drivers, espe- - dally those trying to turn west onto 400 North from Main Street. Most of the increased traffic is reported along bench roads, as that is the site of most new residential development. Balling told the city council recently. Utah-Wyomi- programs were dissolved due to funding and the lack of a director. There is no question that its a fairly expensive thing , said Parker, if any one city were to do this alone, it would cost them upwards of $2,000 or more depending upon the support and involvement. It was then that Parker's idea was bom. Perhaps the six northernmost cities in the county - Clinton, Sunset, West Point, Syracuse, Clearfield, and South Weber - could form an alliance and share equally in the expense of the franchise for the Miss UtahMiss America program. Originally, the name of Miss Northern Davis County was considered, but the state pageant board felt that it would conflict too much with the already established Miss Davis County pageant, and therefore, the Miss Lakeside Pageant name was selected. It seems like a good name, since most of us dwell right here along this shoreline and it just seems to fit, said Parker, who is now the pageant director, an unpaid position. Still, the obstacle of uniting ail the cities has been no easy task. The other five cities have approved the pageant proposal, and the Sunset city council is scheduled to discuss the idea tonight. comAfter ail, it is a three-yea- r mitment, with each city agreeing to donate $300 for the cause each year.
