You cant blame other people for your anger. The approach to dealing with peoples problems is changing. Its an exciting time to be in the mental health field when these approaches are coming, she said. Psychiatrists are taking a positive solution focus rather than dwelling on problems of old. Mills' service at the Enrichment Center focuses on the Head Start program and working with the centers employees. She works very closely with the families at Head Start in trying conditions," said Loma Lee, the centers personnel secretary. She also works with the staff regarding mental health, and shows them helpful ways to overcome anger and stress. After trying a specialty drink at a local drink stand set up in Ernst, Wimmer pleaded with the stand operator until she was taught how to make the drink. "If you want to try something unique, this is the drink. Its one of my favorites," said Wimmer, who said her kids don't actually like it. "I guess it's an acquired adult taste, Wimmer explained. ' - Garrett said the drink tastes a lot like ice cream. Yeah, melted ice cream," Garretts sister Annie said with a sour face. ' . Wunmer said she would keep the recipe secret out of fairness to the drink stand. Wimmer makes a Gear Sparkle drink with soda and grape juice that many have said tastes like champagne. Since the family doesn't drink alcohol, Wimmer admits that she wouldnt know. She loves the drink though because it has such a pretty clear look. I Although Wimmer strives to figure out drink recipes, she has never mastered the Orange Julius. I've tried every recipe out there and none of them are as good as the ones Orange Julius makes, said Wimmer. She said she has watched them make the drink several times, trying to figure out the trick to it. "It has something to do with the powder they add to it, she guessed. In addition to punch, Wimmer family gatherings always feature a few old standbys. One is pineapple-flavore- d with cinnamon candies, another is a cranberry relish sweetened up with orange and pineapple. cookieMuddy snowballs like confections made with dates walnuts and coconut - are a unique family favorite. First, replace negative love-bas- thoughts with positive affirmation daily. She suggests saying, I love and accept myself as I am and I open room for growth. Second, take time to relax and meditate or contemplate. Our body and mind knows it needs to have quiet time, she said. It always knows it needs reflection, contemplation, a connection so you can acknowledge who you really are rather than competitors who judge ourselves and others. Teach children to relax and not always be surrounded by competition. Children and parents are so externally focused and highly stimulated. There is no quiet time to reflect or be idle. Since we are not used to slowing down we often feel guilty if we do. The third way to develop a positive self is to write morning papers. When you first get up in the morning, write three pages of whatever is on your mind. Put it away. Dont read period it, she said. Within a three-mont- h your thinking will become a lot more clear and more focused. She said this early writing gets rid of a lot of psychological clutter. Lastly, enjoy life a little more. Once a week take yourself somewhere to go play. Adults forget to have fun. She said this play should not be expensive, just enjqyable. Of 2 standard-siz- e attitudes ten we feel guilty for pleasure but its vital for healthy positive self, she said. Allow children to make choices and teach them with creative play. Rather than control who they are, understand who they are -thats how we learn our differences, she said. Try to be where they are. Relate at their level. She said playing with children will open up conversations of understanding. It also is important to help them accomplish small tasks so they feel competent and able to control their world in a small way. Ron and Sandra Hubbard of Syracuse attended the seminar with their son Jeremy. They said they thought the class may help their family unity. We want to create a more loving atmosphere in our home, said Ron. The idea that fear is a base of anger really helps me understand where my anger comes from, he said. Now that he understands more about anger, Ron said that hopefully he can find ways to overcome it. Jeremy also said the basic understanding of fear will help him. A knowledge of where anger comes from will help me control my anger from now on, hopefully, he said. Mills said she mainly taught the seminar to help families relate to one another.
