This is no different than food or shelter compared to a movie and popcorn. The city must be fiscally responsible with your tax money. Lets use it to build up our police and fire protection, roads, crime fighting, water and sewer upgrades, safety, beautification, future growth planning, etc., etc., etc. Please elect me to the Clearfield City Council. Growth in Layton should be limited to allow an orderly transition into the large city Layton is destined to become. Several members of the present council are consistently late for the work sessions. We can either have democracy in this country or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we cannot have both, warned Supreme Court Justice Louis Branders. Democracy and capitalism are not two words for the same system they're opposites! Democracy is a wonderful invention by the people of history to defend themselves from the power, greed and arrogance of the rich upper class. Capitalism is a system where the vast wealth that is produced by the workers is monopolized by the privileged upper class. The interests of the elite upper class (capitalism) and the interests of the working class (democracy) are forever opposed to each other. For example, one woman said the local schools were already at or above capacity and that this development and the other four would cause great hardship on the schools. The planner said that he had talked to the school board and they assured him they could handle all the growth and that West Clinton Elementary was considered for closure two years ago due to lack of enrollment. The school district and principal of West Clinton were contacted and both said this was never the case. There are now 555 student with one portable in use. Both junior highs that Clinton students attend arc above capacity. Syracuse Junior High has nine portable units now. School officials say all but one of five elementary schools are near capacity.
