Tobacco use is the number one preventable cause of death in the United States, and yet, 3,000 children become addicted every day! In Davis County a group of con- have formed a KIDS (Kids Inhaling cerned youth advocates Dangerous Smoke) Coalition. This coalition has been formed in order to train and support youth efforts to address youth addiction to tobacco. The ultimate goal of this coalition is to provide youth with the opportunity to influence their communities policies, knowledge, attitude and behavior concerning tobacco. The Davis County KIDS Coaliand tion is completely non-prof- it all the youth involved volunteer their lime. Coalition members have a variety of outstanding ideas that they would like to implement in informing the community about the harmful effects of tobacco. The Davis County KIDS Coalition would like to invite teens from eighth- - to 12th grades to participate in the designing of a logo for the Utah KIDS Coalition. A grand prize will be given to the designer of the winning logo, which will be adopted as the statewide KIDS Coalition logo and used on stickers, etc. The contest rules arc as follows: 1) Designs must convey the message that youth play a vital role in community; creating a tobacco-fre- e 2) All entries must be original and on a 82 x paper; 3) Entries must be completed in pen, markers, or paints and include the KID Coalition acronym; 4) Designs must be submitted to the Davis County Health Department by June 21, 1995; and 5) The designers name, age, address, and phone number must be included on the back of the entry. Where the money would come from, I've really never given it much thought. I dont think its fair to lax people because not everyone would use them. I think donations is a good way to go for those who arc willing to use them. I would be willing to pay a little bit toward it because it's something our family enjoys. They should absolutely go to people outside of the area. A lot of people come lo golf over there who arc outside of Fruit Heights. I would get some of those people who use the courts as well, who live outside of Fruit Heights lo donate some money and see if they can gel enough money that way."
