By JaNAE FRANCIS Standard Examiner correspondent CLEARFIELD Students submitted everything from pic- tures to poems for competition in South Clearfield Elementarys effort to keep students off drugs. As part of Red Ribbon Week in October, the PTA sponsored a picture, slogan, poem and essay contest. The four different types of student creations competed in one category in each grade for South Clearfield Elementary hats or back packs. It was really surprising what the kids came up with, said Jane Chambers, school PTA health Everything was really good...hard to judge. The contest winner for the kindergarten was Shawn Espinossa, son of Jesse and Isabelle Espinossa, who drew a picture. Second-an- d third-plac- e winners were Carissa Ray and Pam Lalik respectively. In the first grade, Whitney Adams picture was chosen for first place. She is the daughter of Jeff and Beverly Steinle. Natasha Carter was second place while Crystal Talo earned e honors. Tess Beasley, daughter of Thomas and Mary Beasley, was third-plac- the winner in the second grade with a slogan. Second- - and third-plac- e win- ners were Devan Johnston and Chris Poliak respectively. In the third grade, Greg Meza was the winner with a poster entry. He is the son of Grover and Terrie Meza. Manda Remien was second place while Lindsey Hawthorn came in third. Jeremiah Miller earned first-plahonors in the fourth grade with a poster entry. He is the son of Henry and Sherrie Miller. Maria Guymon was second place and Ladda Luanglath earned third. In the fifth grade Steven Wixon ce honors with a of Dennis and Rayella Wixon. Second and third place honors were earned by Brandon Polk and Billy earned first-plac- e slogan. He is the son Knesht. In sixth grade, Joshua Watkins, son of Clay and Dorothy Watkins, earned top honors with a picture, Brandon Wilcox came in second and Jeremy Farr was third. Other activities included a grocery bag decoration where students drew slogans on bags to be used at the commesary at Hill Air Force Base. Red Ribbon Week is part of a national effort to keep youth off drugs. The theme of the National Young Leaders Conference is The Leaders of Today Meeting the Leaders of Tomorrow. three branches of government, the media and the diplomatic corps. They will meet with Sen. Jake Gam, Sen. Orrin G. Hatch, Rep. James V. Hansen, or designated members of their staffs. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss important policy issues and focus on topics of state and local concern. 11-1- 6.
