Show -- 5D Lakeside Review, Wednesday, November 18, 1987 Clearfield ready for production of 'West Side Story' MARGE SILVESTER Jaynce Welti, choreographer, and Norm Maxfield, drama teacher and technical director. Music will be directed by Les Davis and performed by the Clearfield High School Jazz band, under the direction of Mike Anderson. Lead roles will be performed by Angela Williams, as Maria; Darren Cutler, as Tony; Jonathan Hale as Riff, leader of the Jets; Mike Stamm, as Bernardo; and Rahel Morrison, as Anita. The plays setting is in the 1950s with clashing gangs on New York Citys West Side. Tony, once the leader of the Jets street gang, tries to keep his distance from them and their rival Puerto Rican Sharks. Following his meeting of Maria at a high school dance he becomes more committed to peaceful coexistence between two gangs, as the two fall in Lakeside Review correspondent CLEARFIELD West Side Story," a modern version of Romeo and Juliet, will be presented by the Clearfield High School drama department on Nov, 20, 21, and 23. Each performance begins at 7 p.m. The cast, consisting of 40 class members, has been directed by Maxfield with Jaynec Welty coordinating the choreography and Les Davis directing the choral music. With the help of 16 technicians, the culmination of two and one half months of intense rehearsing will be history when r the curtain rises on Friday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. for the opening performance. The play will also be performed on Saturday, Nov. 21 and Monday, Nov. 23. Reserved seats are $3 and general admission, $2. ROY Lil Abner will be 7:30 p.m., Nov. 19, at presented 20, and 21 by Roy High School. The school is located at 2150 W. 4800 S Roy. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased at the door. Debbie Armstrong is the director with Wade Simon assisting as student director. There is no admission charge and the public is invited to enjoy a Sunday evening in the magnificent atmosphere of the Cathedral listening to some of the worlds finest music. This is not the first time that the Salt Lake Opera Theatre has performed in the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Previous concerts have included the Verdi Requiem, the Brahms German Requiem, and two concerts of all Opera music. David Merrill, a noted Utah artist, will display his most recent paintings in his gallery at 192 N. 100 E., Farmington. The gallery will be open through November and December by appointment.
