The purpose of sister schools is to establish communication between students and teachers who reside in diverse regions of the world. The goal is to traverse cultural, political and geographic boundaries in expanding awareness of creative potential. The annual Seventh World Conference on Gifted and Talented Children will be held in Salt Lake City in August. Parents and teachers are invited to attend this conference. 'Literacy training' offered to youths The Davis FARMINGTON County Summer Youth Employment and Training Program (SYETP) is offering a new project this year. The Literacy Training Project will be offered for youth aged 16-2- 1. The literacy project provides youth an opportunity to improve math and reading skills, in addition to working on a worksite. The entire project is approximately 300 hours and youth can earn $3.35 an hour. Work experience at public agencies is also offered, giving youth the opportunity to learn new skills during the summer. These youth will work approximately 200 hours and earn wages at $3.35 an hour. All youth must meet income guidelines. For more information or please call 451-33- 451-336- 6. Sunset teen chosen to compete at rally SUNSET Stephanie Brodal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn T. Brodal of Sunset, will represent the Utah Unit of the Wally Byam Caravan Club, International, as teen queen in a pageant in the 30th International Rally, June 28 to July 4. She will compete with other teen queens from all over the United States and Canada. They will be judged on talent, poise, beauty, excellence of performance, courtesy and friendliness. , Stephanie is 16 years old and is a junior at Clearfield High School. For her talent, she will play the piano. She will perform before an audience upwards of 10,000 Wally Byam Caravan Club members, at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center at Rapid City. ' e She won honors last in the amateur year junior competition at the Wally Byam Caravan Club Rally at Boise, Idaho. first-plac- Law Day activities memorable for kids Law Day CLEARFIELD will long be remembered by chil- dren at the South Clearfield Elementary School. A special program, spearheaded by Dorothy Parker Lawrence, Veterans of Foreign Wars District 13 president, featured local and state dignitaries including Gov. Norman Bangerter and Congressman Jim Hansen. Principal Marilyn Dahl accepted a flag for the school presented by Bessie Petersen, District 13 senior vice president. In a keynote address, Clearfield Mayor Neldon Hamblin challenged the students to be patriotic every day." He also urged the children to support and study the laws of the land and serve others. Following the ceremony, the children released hundreds of balloons with messages asking the finders to participate in the activities of POWMIA groups around the country.
