Speeches at the event were given by Mayor Wayne Kimber and also Bryce Jensen, who is the son of Roys first elected mayor, Joseph W. Jensen. Other activities included on the anniversary program involved several musical numbers. City honors Roy man The Roy City Council ROY shared in the citys 50th anniversary birthday celebration Monday night by naming Sterling Morris as its sixth outstanding citizen of the year. Morris, a lifetime educator in Roy, is the sixth recipient to receive the award which will be awarded each month for the remainder of the year in conjunction with the citys 50th birthday. According to school officials at Roy High, where Morris has conducted choir for more than 20 years, the school teacher is popular with the students and is considered a father figure. Citizen of year Morris, who has been with the Weber County School District for many years, was born in Shelly, Idaho, and received his education at Utah State before moving to Roy in 1960. Since that time Morris has been with the Weber County School District, six years with T.H. Bell Junior High in Ogden, and 21 years with Roy High. Morris has been married to Barbra Ricks for 27 years and has four children, John, Scott, Nikki and Sue, all of Roy.
