Admissipn is limited to those 8 years of age and older. Unless otherwise indicated, all concerts are performed in the Assembly Hall. Wednesday, March 4: Utah Federation of Music Audition Winners The winners of the 1987 Utah Federation of Music Auditions will appear in concert on Wednesday evening. Cellist Stephen Hodson will play Tchaikovskys Pezzo Capricioso," with piano accompaniment by Andrew Iver- to present operetta RUTH MALAN Review correspondent Nearly 60 handicapped youths from the northern Davis County area will present an original operetta, The Legend of the Sego Lily on Thursday, March 5, and Friday, March 6 in the Clearfield High School auditorium. The musical production is free of charge and will begin each evening at 7:30 p.m. The show is written and directed by Beverly Olsen of Kaysville and features a cast of youngsters from the North Davis Area Mutual for the Handicapped. The plot of The Legend of the Sego Lily is based on an old poem written by a woman from Huntsville. Mrs. Olsen said she read it several years ago. Ive long since lost the poem, but I remember the story, Mrs. Olsen said. The poem recounted the tale of an Indian maiden named Raylonna who, because of a jealous medicine mans rage, was turned into a sea gull. The operetta also involves a band of Mormon pioneers crossing the plains and sequences about Nauvoo, the westward trek, a pioneer boy falling in love with a beautiful Indian girl and the historic confrontation of the hardy early settlers of the Great Salt Lake crick- Valley with the son. Soprano Stephanie Asay will sing The Mountains are Dancing and Be Still As You Are Beautiful by Duke, and Puccinis In quelle trine morbide from Manon Lescaut. Her accompanist will be Pauline Hills. Pianist Paul Winterton will play the first movement of Beethovens Sonata in Major Op. 22 and Prelude B-fl- at sets about writing a production such as this, she first selects music that the audience will enjoy, then she writes the play around the various songs she has selected. State, and will feature stake president Rulon C. Cummings as the speaker. President Cummings was bom in Salt Lake City, married the former Jeannine M. Astler, and has three sons and three daughters. His background includes an associate degree and a bachelors of science degree. He is employed as a financial ac- tion, with revised lyrics to fit the theme of the play. The handicapped youths will perform several dances as well as choral numbers. Accompanied by Roland Pitt, soprano Julie Reynolds will sing Cycle of Holy Songs (Psalms 134, 142, and 148) by Rorem. Peter Van De Graaff, bass, will sing My Lord, If I Am A Sinner from Tchaikovskys Iolanthe and Chanson du due by Ibert. March 6: Deseret String Quartet March 7: Northern Light The quartet will begin the program with Bartoks Quartet No. 5 (1934). Pianist Thomas Duis will join the group for the evenings finale, Robert Schumanns Quintet for Piano and Strings in Major, Op. 44. Directed by Alan Swanson, Northern Light, a Scandinavian vocal ensemble from Brigham Young University, will appear in concert on Saturday evening. Their concert is titled Psalms Simple, Psalms Sophisticated and focuses on music composed to accompany the Bibat lical psalms. The program will begin with three versions of the familiar 23rd Psalm and will continue with Psalm 51. The Layton South Stake consists of the area south of Gordon Avenue to the south and west Layton city limits. The boundaries follow the back lot lines of the homes on West Gordon to 2200 West and then cut diagonally to the back lot lines of homes on the north side of Gordon. Clive Barney was called to serve as stake president of the newly formed stake. His counselors are Cleve Dibble and Scott Smedley. Brent Allen will continue serving as president of the Layton West Stake. Steve Randall and "'.-- v A Cleve Dibble David Larsen have been called to serve as counselors. The Layton West Stake Center is within the boundaries of the Layton West Stake, and a new building, located near 2000 West Gordon is near completion. A new stake center is planned for the Layton South Stake.
