Show 6A Lakeside Review, Wednesday, r April 30, 1986 Key Allied, German officers of World War II to visit Hill The Battle of Britain Society of Utah and the Pioneer Flight of the Daedalians will bring a special program with key World War II officers to the Officers Club at Hill Air Force Base May 2. Featured will be Gen. Adolf Galland, Generalleutant a D. und general der Jagdflieger, German Air Force; retired Wing Cmdr. Geoffrey Page, Royal Air Force, and retired Maj. Gen. Pete Peterson, U.S. Air Force. This event will feature a dinner followed by a special presentation by these men, all of whom were aces in the Battle of Britain. This military campaign in the late summer of 1940 spelled the first defeat of Hitlers invading forces in World War II and changed the course of history. Galland was a fighter pilot, unit commander, and General of Fighters in the Luftwaffe between 1942 and 1945. He was the second person to receive the Diamonds to the Knights Cross, and was at one time the youngest general in the German Armed Forces at the age of 30. He lives in Bonn, Germany, with his wife Heidi. Page started his career as a pi- - lot in the London University Air and the 611 Squadron, and generally flew Hurricanes with the Eagle Squadrons. Peterson was transferred to the 8th Army Air Force from the Royal Air Force in 1942. He flew in England throughout the war except for one brief period in Italy toward wars end. Peterson was the youngest full colonel appointed in the 8th Army Air Force at age 23. During his career, Peterson was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Purple Heart, the Air Medal, the Legion of Merit, the British D.S.O. and D.F.C., and the French Legion of Honor. Peterson is a native of Utah, and resides in Ogden. He obtained his commission from Cranwell, the British equivalent to our Air Force Academy, with an exceptional rating. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1938. During the war he started his flying with Hurricanes, and was shot down in August 1940 during the Battle of Britain, having first shot down four enemy aircraft. He was a wing commander at the age MORE of 24. Since the war he has worked as a consultant for airlines throughout the world, and has been president of the Royal Air Force Association Swiss Branch in Geneva, Switzerland. Peterson joined the Royal Air Force in 940. He was sent to a British Officer Training Unit for 10 days, and then joined the Royal Air Force Squadron 611 for d two weeks. He then went to where the Eagle Squadrons were being formed, and in October of 1940 was transferred to Church Fenton as a pilot officer in Eagle quadron 71.
