Some of our school friends wondered-howe felt about our father being principal. We always loved having our father as our principal. It was fun, said Mrs. Muir. Stories told about her father were acted out in skits by the Once a young girl went to Morgan, telling him she did not have her best friend in any of her classes and she felt bad. He immediately helped her rearrange her classes so her friend could be in one of them with her. He knew how much friendships meant and he was not unapproachable, said Mrs. Muir of her father. Last Friday, Geri Smiths grade class presented an assembly answering that ques- lion. skit portraying some inci- dents of his life was done by the studcnts. A photograph taken .while Morgan was superintendent the Davis School District was ';i presented to the school by only living child, Mary Margaret Muir of Salt Lake City. Morgan was born April 11, 1893. in Samaria, Idaho. He ..served 42 years as an educator e21 of those years as principal of ,;Davis High School. He was assistant superintendent for seven gym. He also let a typing student go Cyears and served as superinten- to school early to use the school . ;dent of the Davis County School I District for five years, retiring in typewriter so she could do better stu-den- ts. of Mor-!;:ga- ns ;. in typing. He and his wife Ada McKinnon 'moved to Kaysville in 1921. Former Utah Gov. Calvin Rampton described Morgan as a pleasant sort of guy. I really liked and respected the man. A family friend, Horton Miller, said, He related beautifully with students. They respected him for the kindly manner by which he brought right to prevail. There are so many of us who saw and felt the complete goodness of this man. Tibby Simmons of Kaysville read a tribute she had written while she was the editor of the yearbook at Davis. A man with the enduring power of understanding, a delicate sense of honor, a sympathetic heart, a o transcendent gentleness of comnever but advises, mands, who reaches out for friendship and gives of it loyally and generously in his every thought and deed-- a man devoted to his fellow men. (From the D soul-wh- Book, 1934) She said she was glad her grandchildren could go to the school named after this man. She said she and a friend loved Davis High so much that they wanted to stay overnight in it. They asked Morgan if they could and were granted permission. It was scary but fun, she said. Morgan Elementary opened fee fifth grade students only in January of 1979. The school was unfinished, so lunches were prepared at Kaysville Elementary and taken to the 10 classes of fifth grade students attending Morgan. The fall of 1979 was the first complete year of school. The first principal was Stephen Whitesides, the former principal of Kaysville Elementary., An addition was finished in 1983-8- 4 and was first used in 1984-8The present principal fo the school is Henry Emery. Mrs. Muir is a professor at the University of Utah. She is the wife of Edward Muir and the mother of three sons. Morgans other daughter died in 1972. The program was arranged by Mrs. Smiths students and a newspaper was published by the students parents as a keepsake of the occasion. 5.
