Mammography can find cancers too small to be felt by the woman herself or by the most experienced physician. Mammography also shows other changes in breast tissue that could represent a sign of very early cancer. A baseline mammogram is of value because it can be referred to for later comparison. In combination with physical examination, mammography has been proven effecin tive in saving women over the age of 50 who do not have symptoms.
