Show Page IB Lakeside Review Wednesday, February 20, 1985 Day at a Time Is Motto for Life With 3 Sets Twins 1 ANITA KERSEY Review Correspondent ROY "One Day At A Time the motto printed on a plaque that hangs on a wall in Trevor and Sandy Burboroughs' home. Sandy painted the plaque when she was 17 years old but she never dreamed how much she would need it later in her life. On Nov. 9, 1984. Sandy gave birth to twins Adam Trevor and Samantha Lee and then there were three three sets of twins that is. The Burboroughs first twins, a is . boy Jesse. Ian and a girl Erin Emma arrived on March 26, 1978. It was no surprise when two more baby girls. Jenna Kate and Haley Ann. made their appearance on Feb. 10. 1982. There are no twins in Trevors or Sandy's families but coincidences in their lives have become common place. They were both born on May 4, 1950. Each was the third child born in his respective family and both have a brother born on April 26. Both went on a mission for the LDS Church to Ireland at the same time, where they met. although they had no idea then they would some day be married. After his mission, Trevor moved to Canada but later made a trip to Salt Lake City when he saw Sandys name on a genealogy report that he had ordered. She was working in the LDS Church Genealogical Library. To make a long story short, they fell in love, were married and have now specialized in twins. But this story doesnt end yet with they lived happily ever after. The Burboroughs had another child, Andy, born on Oct. 23, 1980. at the McKay-De- e Hospital. They were heartbroken three months later when Andy died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). VVhen their second set of twins arrived, they were warned there was an increased possibility of SIDS recurring because of Andys death and because twins are more susceptible than single children. With this knowledge, the BurJenboroughs fitted na and Haley with monitors that signaled them if the heart rate or respiration decreased. If either baby stops breathing, the monitor will let out a loud, shrill noise. The alarm of the monitor alone is designed to arouse the baby to begin breathing on his own. Parents using these monitors are taught cardio- pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques to be used should they have to revive the baby; Sandy said usually all that is needed is a little nudge and the baby catches his breath and again breathes on his own. Trevor and Sandy are again using the monitors with their new- est twins Adam and Samantha. Dr. Greg Johnston of Omega Technologies has fitted the twins with Sentinel (TM) Monitors. Dr. Johnston has let us use these monitors, free of charge, said Sandy. She added that the set of machines they had for the second set of twins, Haley Jenna, cost $200 a month machine and they had to them until the babies were 1 Hr and per ' T 'J& use year old. We are extremely grateful to Dr. Johnston for his help and caring, said Trevor. He comes to our home regularly to check the monitors and adjust the rates for the heartbeats and just to make sure everything is all right. . When asked-hothey cope with three sets of twins, the Burboroughs said they do it with lots of team work, patience and love and they take it one day at a time. As for the twins themselves, Sandy said they all play together as any children do. Except, what ; one doesnt think of the other one does. She said, Do you d know what a bag of sugar looks like with water poured all over it and two sitting in the middle of five-poun- it giggling? Well, I do. She also said that they all" share a birthday with someone else so the children think thats how all babies are born in twos. There are always two birthday cakes, two sets of candles and two stacks of gifts and lots of singing and cheering. Sandy said that a typical day in5 cludes six loads of wash, bot16 and baby diaper changes . 30-3- Staff Photo by Rodney W.
