Farmington Use Discouraged " Davis FARMINGTON- - The County Health Department wants to discourage the use of some parts of Farmington Bay. The places to avoid are where the treated sewage is dumped int6 the bay, said County Health Director Richard Harvey. Instead, people should use the waters that are further from the shore lines. This is treated sewage, but it still has some potential for pathogens, he said. Pathogens are microorganisms that can cause disease, he explained. We want to discourage use of these parts not because they are extremely dangerous, but just as a ,, precaution. - The department is taking some samples of the water in the bay, but we Havent found any trends that have caused us alarm, he hbted. ?The effluent from the four sewage treatment plants is being poured into the deeper water now, instead of the marshes near the waters edge, which helped break down the sewage. This years heavy snowmelt runoff into the lake has also reduced the waters salinity, allow- ing for more bacteria growth. the salinity is going back will inhibit the growth which up, of bacteria, Harvey said. The health department is con- sidering placing signs up near the areas to be avoided, he said. - The odor problems near the shores edge, which lead rtiany residents to complain of the stench, present no health hazard, MflllP CAULK' yjW, X, Y, Z, 11:30 a.m. f' Students need not be present to register. in Helps you stay cooler in summer, winter Gives you an even distribution of air1 .i WETDRY ROOF CEMENT 1 CEILING FANS warmer ROOF COATING gallon 4 1 10 F Prevent leaks before they start. ton ttay gallon.
