Show 4 THE PAYSON CHRONICLE Thursday, December 24, 1 Beta Cultus 970 Beta Cultus Club held a Christmas party Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Page Peery. Hostess duties were shared by Mrs. Carol Davis, Mrs. Q.M. Burdick and Mrs. Byron Dastrup. The home was gaily decorated in a Christmas theme. Of special interest was a framed Christmas tree made of brilliant ear rings and lighted with tiny bulbs. It was made by one of the family and presented to the Peerys as a gift. A white poinsettia arrangement made the picture window a work of art and tiny lights enclosed the window frame giving a cheerful welcome to guests. A delicious supper was served buffet style. Mrs. Sally Peery, president, gave a warm welcome and conducted a short business session pertaining to the Christmas projects. A new basketball net and hoop and games wiU be given to the Boys Home in Genola. These were purchased through a fund made up of club donations in lieu of Chrstmas gift exchange. Mrs. Wanda Huff is chairman of the project committee. Club members prepared baskets of oranges and apples to be taken to the three rest homes in Payson. Mrs. Ellen Wiles is chairman for this project. They were delivered later. The presentation was brightened with accordion music played by Robert Lofgran, son of a member, Mrs. Curtis Lofgran and grandson of Mrs. Wiles. After supper the group enjoyed social visiting for the balance of the evening. American Legion and Auxiliary Families of members of the Payson American Legion and Auxiliary gathered at the American Legion Hall last Saturday evening for their annual Christmas party. A highlight of the evening was the appearance of Santa Claus who actually came into the hall through a portion of the fireplace chimney. He distributed treats to all of the children. The evening started with serving of a light supper, after which a program was presented by members of the Junior Girls organization. Pamela Buys announced the following numbers: poem, Jcanett Wilson; organ selection, Linda Allen; song, Bonne Dixon and Connie Madson, accompanied by Madoline Dixon; piano solo, Lori Chappie. Later Commander Noel Dixon directed singing of carols with piano accompaniment by Madoline Dixon. Gifts awarded through a drawing went to Emiline Finlayson, Tom Larson and Var Rosenbaum. Shirley Wilcox was chairman of the fund raising project. Louella Daniels and Zelda Hurst were of the Christmas party. Jr. Auxiliary The regular meeting of the Junior Girls, American Legion Auxiliary was held Saturday at the Legion Hall with Linda Allen in charge. Prayer was by Bonne Dixon. The girls discussed a fund raising campaign in which they sold cans of candy. They also made plans for the Saturday night Christmas Party and the program they were to present. The colors were advanced and retired by Bonne Dixon and Karen Bjarnson. Birthday party Newlyweds honored at lovely reception Miss Geneil Gardner became the bride James (Jamie) L. BaUentine when vows were spoken in the Salt Lake Temple Friday morning, December the 11th. Elder Selvoy Boyer officiated at the ceremony. The new Mrs. BaUentine is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Grant Gardner of Payson. The benedicts parents are Mr. and Mrs. Donald L, Ballentine of Makati, Philippines. As they unable to be here for the wedding and reception, Jamies Mrs. W.N. grandparents, Mr. and Molyneux of Twin Falls, Idaho were honored to attend. of Legion Auxiliary The annual American Legion Christmas Party was held recently at the Legion Hall, where members were entertainedby music from the Grant Johnson family. The children, Michael, Randy, Steven and Robert, sang carols and played band selections, with their mother, Mrs. Grant Johnson, at the piano. Supper was served and gifts were exchanged by members attending. Mrs. Mar- - Dr. and Mrs. G.L. Momberger, sister brother-in-laof the bride hosted the bridal party at a brunch at their home at 1344 Yale Avenue in Salt Lake City after the ceremony. The newlyweds received guests at a reception honoring them that evening at the Nebo Stake Center in Payson. The bridal party stood in front of a beautiful white drop draped with burgundy color chiffon caught up in the center with evergreen boughs, satin baUs and large bow of ribbon. Burgundy color bows of ribbon held the drape at either side. A lighted pillar flanked each side with a bouquet of flowers to compliment the colors. The brides dress was princess style made of de lustre satin with a lace covered mandrin collar. A lace bib extending from the neck to below the waist was held back by a lace covered belt. A large satin bow at waist back complimented the inverted pleat that extended in a long train. Full sleeves were finished with wide lace covered cuffs. She wore a floor-leng- th veil caught up in a juliann crown. The bridal bouquet was three gardenias circled by deep red rosebuds with long white ribbon streamers extending from the bottom. Attending the bride as matron of honor was Mrs. Ken (Joyce) Asay; bridesmaids were Lynda Powell and sisters ZoeAnn and Shirley. They wore floor length burgundy color velvet jumpers with id-pink long full sleeve blouses. The long pointed collar had a black velvet ribbon tied at the neck. They each carried white rose. a The best man was Jeff Stobbe of San Jose, California. Seated at the brides book were Kristine Peterson, NormaStev-enso- n and Sandi Cooper. Receptionists were Dr. and Mrs. Glenn L. Momberger and Mr. and Mrs. Conway Peterson from Berkeley, Calif. Mrs. Gardner, mother of the bride, wore a long pink formal with a jacket of burgundy color velvet. Mrs. Molyneux wore a dusty rose color dress with white knit-lajacket. They wore corsages of white gardenia circled with white and pink carnations. Giftbearers were the Momberger children, Joel, Heidi and Nathan and Wayne Silversmith. Brenda Vest, Rene Eady, Kristi Harmon and Myrna Gale arranged the gifts. Carlene Provstgaard, Shauna Momberger, Anita Bellows, Ann Evans, Beth Finch and Lou Jean Schramm served refreshments to the guests. The new Mr. and Mrs. Ballentine are honeymooning in the San Francisco area and will return to Payson for the Christmas holidays. He has to report for army duty Dec. 28th. Geneil will finish her schooling at the Y and will be able to go with her husband after February. and w The family of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Alvey hosted a birthday party in honor of Mrs. Alvey Sunday evening at the Grand View Cafe in Provo. Those attending were Maurice Alvey, Mr. and Mrs. LaMar (Jean) Hall, Lake Shore, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Alvey, Sandy, Utah, Mr. and Mrs. LaMar Alvey and Mr. and Mrs. Golden Alvey all of Payson. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Jasperson, Payson: Mr. and Mrs. Harold F ox, Eureka; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Geln Young and Mr. and Mrs. Merrill AUsion, all of Provo; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hammond, Spring-vill- e; Mrs. Jack Nielson, Randy and Evan Neilson and Bill Schwartz of Leland. After the birthday party some of the guests went to the Maurice Alvey home to visit and to have ice cream and cake. Announcement made of wedding plans Mr. and Mrs. Weston C. Bean of Payson wish to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Linda Sue Bean, to Dr. Larry L. Foster, son of Mrs. Leilia Runner of Napa, Calif., and the late Virgil Foster. The couple will recite nuptial vows Dec. 30 in a 6 oclock ceremony performed by Nebo Stake President Philip Jones at the home of the brides parents. Family members and a few select friends have been invited to attend the nuptials and small reception to be held afterward. The bride-ele- ct is a graduate of Payson High School and University of Utah. She taught in the Home Economics Department at a Sacramento, Calif, high school for a few years and is currently teaching at a high school in South San Francisco. She is also pursuing her masters degree in Home Economics at San Francisco State College. Miss Bean has traveled extensively throughout Western Europe and has been around the world. Dr. Foster is dean of the graduate division, San Francisco State College. He is a graduate of Western IUinois University, where he earned his degree in social science. He was awarded a masters degree in geography at University of Wisconsin and his doctorate in higher education administration at Mich-ig- n State University. He has been elected to a number of honor societies and is listed in Outstanding Young Men In America and Whos Who in American College and University Administration. He, too, has traveled extensively throughout the world and has served three years in the Marine Corps. NOTES- CAMP PETEETNEET Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Camp met Dec. 12 at the home of Crista Amos with Mary Jeppson, captain, in charge. Prayer was given by Ella Hill and songs were directed by Mrs. Amos with piano accompaniment by Margaret Carlisle. Mrs. Amos told a story of her family in pioneer days and in later years. The Glad Tidings, was given by lesson, Nellie Merrill. The group sang Christmas carols and exchanged gifts. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Amos and Mrs. Carlisle. Mrs. Money, club president, welcomed members, after which carols were sung with Mrs. Don J.McCoy playing organ accompaniment. Mrs. Mary Jeppson read a story, The Beautiful Christmas Tree and Mrs. Me Coy later entertained with organ selections. Members donated one dollar each to be used in purchasing gifts for several people at the El Rancho Rest Home and also for some children who are in need. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Money, Mrs. Della Chatwin, Mrs. Leland Sheets and Mrs. Sterling Ballard. News - THE BUSY BEES The Busy Bees H club meeting was held Dec. 10, at the home of their leader, Nancy Bradford. The meeting was called to order by President Denice Miller. The opening song was Someones in the Kitchen with Dina led by Janice White. The opening prayer was by Dana Herbert. Pledge of Allegiance by Susan Christensen. The H Pledge by Elouise Henry. Minutes were read and approved. The remainder of the time was spent planning a Christmas Party. The Christmas party was to be held Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. 4-- 4-- There were 8 members present, 1 leader and two visitors. The visitors were Mariyln Beckstead and Virginia Christensen.
