Merton Whitney Merton Lewis (Mert) Whitney, 80, Spanish Fork, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1970, in Payson Hospital He was born Sept. 26, 1890 in Fairport, N.Y., the son of Clinton R. and Flora Lewis Whitney. He married Grace Quick. They were later divorced. On Jan. 8, 1935, he married Vera Johnson in Dearfield, Kan. For a number of years, the couple lived in Elberta; and later was employed for the Denver Alfalfa Co. in Colorado and Kansas. In 1953, the couple moved to Spanish Fork and he was employed at the Utah State Hospital until his retirement. Survivors include his wife of Spanish Fork; daughter, Mrs. Mildren Brown, Sparks, Nev.; four grandchildren; seven Refreshments were served. For their Halloween party Tuesday night the members of the MIA dressed in their woolies and taking a blanket along, braving the cold weather, went for a hayride. Drivers of the tractors pulling the wagons were Grant Lyman and Orlo Larson. Returning to the Cultural Hall they played ball games. Refreshments were served hot chocolate and doughnuts, by the officers. The party was planned by the youth. opening the new building of Central Bank and Trust. They played games and very tasty refreshments were served. Mrs. Rex (Sadie) Peery has been convalescing at her home after being released from the St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake after underoing surgery there. Howard C. Others present were Miss Sandra Benner, from Salt Lake; Mrs. Naomi Wiley from Spanish Fork and Mrs. Joan Bradley and sons, Scott and Jeff, from Payson. They all went to the home of the Louis Petersons where the, en,oyed dinner and visiting for the afternoon. Mrs. Petersons aunt, Mrs. Elbert Barnett also attended the meeting. business. Mrs. Rhoda N. Davis from Payson was an overnight guests of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Davis, Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Durrant and children made a trip to Richfield on Saturday to the home of her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Warenski and family. Mr. and Mrs. Hector Sadler spent the day with their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Mr. Sadler attended Jim Davenport. Priesthood Meeting and Sunday School and Mrs. Sadler with his visited with her daughter, Merlene and baby. The Sadlers along with his parents and other relatives went to the Fast Meeting held in the 18th Ward in Provo when their granddaughter was blessed by her father and assisted by grandfathers and an uncle and given the name of Lydia Davenport. After meeting all the relatives gathered at the home of the babys grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Davenport at Lehi where they enjoyed a family dinner. On the way home Mr. and Mrs. Ghosts, goblins and Halloween costumes of all sorts were seen roaming around town Saturday at the doors of the residents and shouts of trick or treat were heard. Everyone attending the Special Interest Square .Dance party held Friday night at the Spring Lake Ward Cultural Hall, spent a very pleasant evening. Judy and Lloyd Draper were in charge of table decorations done in Halloween decor for the pot luck dinner served. Brown were held Saturday, October 31, 1970 at 11:00 a.m. in the Spanish Fork Fourth LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Frank C. Argyle conducting. Prelude and postlude was played by Ruth Swenson. Opening prayer was given Look Up by Len Hansen. Opening song, To Him, was sung by the Singing Mothers. Speakers were Stephen Cask and LaCoy Newby. Following remarks by Bishop Frank C. She underwent surgery on her hip Monday, Oct. 26. She is reported to be doing well. Vallen C. Brown, 49, 244 N. 200 E., Spanish Fork, died October 28, 1970 while at work at Geneva Steel from natural causes. He was born February 14, 1921, at Koosharem, Utah, the son of George H. and Mary Christensen Brown. On Sept. 5, 1945, he married Charlene Hansen in Manti. He was educated in Koosharem and worked for the past 25 years in the blast furnace department at Geneva Steel He was a member of the Steel Workers Union and the LDS Church. Surviving are his wife, Spanish Fork; four daughters and a son, Mrs. Elden (Linda) Tervort, Payson; Mrs. Wayne (Patti) Thomas, Provo; Mrs. Brent (Kaye) Ellis, Janet, and Kevin, all of Spanish Fork; two grandchildren; two brothers and five sisters, Vernon, Dragerton; Clayton, Mrs. Ardene Cask, both of Spanish Fork; Mrs. Sylvia Christensen, Provo; Mrs. Floyd (Bonnie) Jensen, Sigurd; Ina Newby and Mrs. Bud (Has) Hannon, both of Monroe. Lake City were welcomed as well as Senator Wallace H. Gardner, Tim Moran, and J. Ross Nielsen, President of the Chamber of Commerce. President J. They attended Fast Meeting for the blessing of little Carolee Eggett blessed by her father, Ronald Eggett to receive her name. After meeting they all gathered at the Ronald Eggett home where they enjoyed a delicious family dinner and being together as a family. There were 31 present for the occasion. Vallen Brown Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home with Bishop Merrill Clark officiating. Burial was in the Provo City Huge baskets of flowers the color of antiqued gold and bronze complimented the Bancock teakwood of the walls. Many dignitaries were there including all of the members of the Board of Directors of the bank, Utah County Commissioners, Stanley D. Roberts andVerl D. Stone, President H. C.
