COOKS Corner Mrs. Idonna Phone Mrs. Eva Cook Here it is Sunday evening and time for another column. Unlike B. Davis Evans who writes his column at 5:00 a.m. in the bathtub - I write mine on Sunday evening out in the milk barn while helping Hy milk. The milk tank in the milk room makes a good desk and I can still feed the cows and fill the buckets with wash water. I dont really milk and I never have. Years ago, I remember sitting down to an old Jersey cow and I was so proud of myself to think I was going to help Dad milk. I had my bucket and stool and very confidently marched up to her, sat down and before I could get the first yank, her foot was in the bucket and I was - well, I was sitting in a rather soft, squishy predicament. Then the old sister kicked me, threw her head in the air and walked off. So that was the sum total of my milking experience. Milking has really changed in the last d few years. Gone are the old straw-roofe- Mrs. Glen Benson and Mrs. Joseph love. Men- We extend sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tervort and family in the death of their grandson, Randy Lundholm, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Lundholm of Payson who was killed Wednesday afternoon when struck by a falling burned tree while fighting a forest fire in Montana. Randy was a Forest Service Summer employee. Miss Bertha Edwards is a house guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Revel and family. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Peay and Mr. and Mrs. R.N. Moore, taking their campers along, enjoyed a camping and fishing trip to Strawberry Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday of last week. sheds where the rain would drip down your back as you milked. So youd gently move old Bossy to the other end of the shed only to have rain dripping down your back. Breaking in a new heifer was something else again. It usually took the whole family to run her into the shed, hobble her back legs and tie her to a post. Of course in those days, 20 cows was a fairly good sized herd. Now most family dairy herds average 50 to 75 cows. Well, so much for milking. Whenever it gets stormy, we all hope that the power doesnt go off - at least until 8:00, Its been a real dreary day today. This storm has been such a gloomy and cold one. As soon as the clouds lifted a little to reveal the snow the kids immediately sorted through the records and started playing all the Christmas records. We popped a big pan of pop corn and just spent a lazy day at home. It was hard to realize that just a week ago we went on the Alpine Loop and it was so warm and nice. The maple leaves showed just a hint of red and now theres a good showing of snow on the mountains that surround our valley. I dont worry about it tho until theres snow on the West Mountain - then that means its getting closer. Well, it was a miserable Labor Day Weekend for those of you who planned a short trip. And a disappointment for the people of Payson and Midway who had their local celebrations. Better luck next year. i Mrs. Ethel Green flew to Reno, Nevada last Thursday with a patient from the Utah State HdspitaL While there she visited with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Horton.
