Show 6 THE PAYSON CHRONICLE Sound of Freedom coming Thursday, May 21, 1970 Cultusdub Members of the Cultus Club met Wednesday afternoon at the Social Center in Spnish Fork, where the closing social of the year was held. A presidents welcome was given by Mrs. Don J, McCoy, after which a blessing on the food was asked by Mrs. Glade Coming to the Spanish Fork HighSchool Auditorium Saturday, May 23rd, at 8:00 p.m. is the famous entertaining group, The Sounds of Freedom. All money raised by the activity will go toward Ward Chapel. building the new 3rd-6t- h Tickets are $1.00 adults, 50? students and $3.00 a family. Following are comments made concerning the group: Seldom in these days do we see such a fine group of clean-c- ut young Americans. We were told of the groups distinguished background and they surpassed any possible description. I feel this program brought more favorable comment from more of our members than any program I can remember." Dr. William A. Boynton, President Rotary Club of Phoenix. Mrs. Stanley Wilson, chairman, presented members who gave short humorous talks as follows: Mrs. Darrell Brown, Mrs. Eugene Hillman, Mrs. John Daniels and Mrs. Florence Wride. Luncheon was served at tables tastefully decorated in a May Pole theme, after which Mrs. Douglass Dixon, a guest, gave a retold story, The Mother of Gennes-ser- et by Agnes Sleigh Turnball, and Mrs. Crista Amos presented a vocal selection, I Dont Want To Play in Your Yard." In a brief business session members voted to rent a float, using gum ball machine funds for the purpose. Mrs. Mary Jeppson stated that she has place mats showing Utah scenes for sale for $3 for a set of four, giving the club a substantial profit on the sales. Mrs. McCoy reported on the recent state convention held at Springville and displayed napkins used that were imprinted with Payson, Orchard Hills of Utah," which were furnished by Payson clubs. Mrs. Sterling Ballard was the Cultus Club representative for the event. The committee in charge of the social included Mrs. Wilson, chairman; Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Ballard and Mrs. Daniels. Utah. It was Steelworkers Oi May 26 at 1 oclock, at the Union Hall in Provo, the retiredSteelworkers are having a roast beef dinner. The meat will be served as the main course and the remainder of the meal will be pot luck. Be sure to bring something that wiU go good with this. Bring your own dishes. Parents announce engagement Summer wedding plans are being made by Miss Ann Henderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Henderson of Spanish Fork who are announcing her engagement to Mr. Gregory H. Maycock. Parents of the are Mr. and Mrs. Howbridegroom-ele- ct ard Maycock of Springville. The Salt Lake Temple will be the scene of the wedding ceremony on August 6th. A reception honoring the newly-wewill be held in the Spanish Fork Twelfth Ward Cultural HaU on August 7th. The bride-ele- ct is a graduate of the Spanish Fork High School and four-yeSeminary. She wiU graduate from LDS Business College in Salt Lake City in June. Mr. Maycock is a SpringviUe High School and Seminary graduate. He has attended BYU and Career Academy in San Francisco. He is now attending the Ron Bailey School of Broadcasting and wiU qualify soon for his first class radio announcing license. He is a member of the Springville Unit of the Utah National Guard. The enthusiasm and love for God, man and country shown by this group and their John W. openness was most refreshing. Musical program at Wilson School The Fourth grades at Wilson School in Payson put on a musical program last We invited parents and friends week. to enjoy it with us. They enjoyed our dancing, scenery and costumes. Some of us were Indians, some Chinese, others were pioneers and railroad workers. We celebrated the 101 anniversary of the driving of the golden spike in Utah. This was fun for us and we thank our teachers for helping us, Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Peterson. Guys and Dolls to be presented at Provo The fabulous fable that played Broadway Guys and Dolls will be presented at the Provo HighSchool Auditorium onSaturday, Monday and Tuesday, May 23, 25 and 26 at p.m. with a matinee at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $1.50 for adults, students $1.00 and children 75?. The Saturday matinee may be seen by the general public for 50?. 8 The original story was written by Damon n, Runyon; it tells of the masculine Sky who is a ladies man and who is bet $1,000 by his friend that he, Sky, cannot get Sarah (a missionary for the Save a Soul mission to go with him to Puerto Rico). In conjunction with Skys efforts to win this bet, is the inter-pla- y of Nathan and Adalaide, who have been going together for 14 years, but Adalaide hasnt been able to persuade Nathan to marry her. The production cast consists of the following: Choral Music, Ruth Melville; Orchestra, Chester Stone; Drama Director, David Larsen; Choreographer, Joan Christensen; Costumes Bret Hardy; Lighting, Greg Fowkes; Scenic Design, Mas-terso- Fire Ladies The Lady Firemen of Payson met May 11 at the Fire Station with Mrs. Frank Coombs, president, in charge. The litney was read by Mrs. Nyle Thatcher. Connie Madson, young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Madson, represented the American Legion Auxiliary as a Poppy Girl She recited the story of the poppy and the reasons it was selected as a symbol of the sacrifice of the soldiers and other military men. The group discussed plans for the annual Firemans Convention to be held June in Springville. Details of the local groups participation in the parade were planned. Mrs. Vear Reynolds won the door prize. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Duane Patten and Mrs. Neil Losser. MICHELLES CATERING PLANNING A Joel A. The club is under the direction of Lylia Heelis with her daughter, Sharon, acting as their Junior Leader. Perhaps this is because most old fashioned mothers taught their daughters to cook while they were quite young. I know when I made my first cake I was too young to tell time. But thanks to my mothers watchful eye the cake was taken from the oven before it burned. That was long before cake mixes and automatic timers so a success in those days was something to sing about. Th success of this column will depend upon you good cooks because we want to share YOUR favorite recipes with the other readers. Just send a copy of your recipes to me at R.F.D. 1, Box 265. Mayor Rileys wife, Shirley, says that a favorite recipe used at their home this time of the year is one for rhubarb pie. She willingly offered to share the recipe so that we could bake our families a real spring treat. She says that her family enjoys the flavor of this pie and she likes the way the filling thickens up just right. 1 think you will enjoy it too because its such a Ringing with patriotic enthusiasm are members of the BYU "Sounds of Freedom" group which will be appearing at the Spanish Fork High School auditorium Saturday, May 23rd at 8.00 p m. Local members of this outstanding group are Randy Boothe, Musical direction, Mr. Richard Hill, president of the group, and singers Melanie Hansen and Marilyn Moody. - Just One Year Old - Scott H. SHIRLEY RILEYS RHUBARB PIE 4 cups rhubarb, cut in small pieces 1 12 cups 12 Tbs. sugar Minute Tapioca Tbs. corn starch 3 Tbs. orange juice Red coloring This makes enough filling for one two crust pie. Mix the ingredients together. Pour into pastry lined pie tin. Add top crust which has had slits cut in to aUow steam to escape. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees minutes. and bake for 15-Spring is also the time to think of Strawberry Jam so I decided to include this one from my own family favorites. It is very economical, and will work equally well with raspberries. 2 1 Melanie Ann Balzly, daughter of Doug and Nancy Balzly of Benjamin will be one year old May 23. Grandparents include- Mr. and Mrs. Rex Wignall, Payson .Bill Balzly, Benjamin; Alvin Weaver, Goshen. 20 EASY STRAWBERRY JAM fruit (either sliced or mashed) 2 cups water 1 box powdered pectin 1 package strawberry flavored punch powder 6 cups sugar Combine the fruit, water, punch powder, and pectin in a large pan. Bring to a good rolling boil Add sugar and bring to a rolling boil again. Boil 3 minutes. Pour into sterilized jars and seal. Makes To avoid foam on top add 3 12 pints. 1 tsp. butter to rest of ingredients before it begins to boiL 2 cups prepared a GELATIN SALAD MOLD FOR A POTLUCK SUPPER Crisp autumn days and a full schedule of activities mean a need for hearty family suppers to prepare ahead of time. This one stars a molded Ham, Pea, and Celery Salad, zestily flavored and based on lemon gelatin. (It's also a good way to use up the last of the baked ham.)
