Show 6 THE PAYSON CHRONICLE Mr. & Mrs. Allgood Fashion show note 60 years Mrs. Wally Brown of Payson presented fashions from Wilsons Style Shoppe in a fashion show titled, April Showers," held at the Elks Home in Provo last Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Lester Allgood observed 60th wedding anniversary Monday, April 13, receiving messages of congratulations from members of their family. Mr. Allgood and his wife, Arva Mitchell Allgood, were married April 13, 1910, in Ogden. They spent some 40 years in Grand Junction, Colo., and moved to Payson ten their evening. Over a hundred women from Utah attended the luncheon and fashion show which featured entertainment at the visitation. Mrs. Robert Bowen of Spanish Fork was commentator, with models including Mrs. Eugene Smith and Mrs. Leo Daley of Payson. years ago. Mr. Allgood retired 13 years ago. Mrs. Allgood, a native of Granger, is a former president of the Relief Society, having served in this capacity for some 11 years while living in Grand Junction. She was in the Sunday School for 34 years. She is a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. They are parents of a daughter and three sons, Florence Neth, Santa Maria, Calif.; Marvin Allgood of Layton; Earl Allgood, Palm Desert, Calif.; Dell Allgood, Fillmore. They have 23 grandchildren and 20 Vickie Rae Carter Nuptials planned Mr. and Mrs. Glade W. Carter announce the engagement of their daughter, Vickie Rae, to Terry Leon Walker. Mr. Walker, the benedict-elec- t, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon R. Walker of Lindon. The nuptial vows will be repeated Friday, June 5 in the Salt Lake Temple. There will be a reception that same evening in the First-Fift- h Ward. The bride-eleis a graduate of the four year Payson High School Seminary and the Payson High School. She was a member of the Pep Club and the National Honor Society at the high school. She is now a sophomore at the Brigham Young University. Mr. Walker is a graduate of the Pleasant Grove High School and a four year graduate in Seminary. He completed a mission to Uruguay and is now attending the BYU and will graduate in August. the Retired Steelworkers are having a pot luck dinner at the Union HaU in Provo at. 1 oclock. The main course is a casserole so bring something that will go good with this and spend an afternoon with us. Bring your own dishes. We have been promised a good program. There will be no charge. For information call 798-682- 9. Lady Fireman Lady Firemen of Payson met last Monday in the Fire Station with Mrs. Frank Coombs, president, in charge. The litney was read by Mrs. Dennis Loveless. A demonstration of the Slim Gym was given by Mrs. George Wilson, who discussed the health facets of the machine. Members later were allowed to try it. The door prize was won by Mrs. Frank Coombs. Refreshments were served. Officers are; Mrs. William (Mattie) & wedding Saturday, April 25 has been chosen to hold a Little Buckaroo Queen Contest at the cabins by the Lake. Youngsters up to 10 years of age are eligible. The time 5 p.m. George LeFevre is the chairman. Dawn Taylor to present concert The public is invited to a Vocal Conon Wednesday, April 29th at 8 p.m. in the Salem Church. The featured artist is a lyric soprano, Dawn P. Taylor, wife of Nelson Taylor of Salem. She has studied music over the past ten years with Brandt Curtiss, Wanda Gottfredson, OrviUa Stevens and the late cert Helen Richards. Presently Mrs. Taylor is a student of Olga Gardner of Provo. Mrs. Taylor is a local singing teacher and a member of the famed Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Assisting at the piano will be Monta Lou Frazier, a local piano teacher. The evening will include numbers by Handel, Mozart, Puccini, Verdi and some of the more contemporary composers like e, Duke and Hageman. One of the selections will be highlighted with violin accompaniment by Merry Swensen. This is the second concert of this type to be given in Salem. The scheduled program is a good one; everyone should enjoy it. p.G. RODEO QUEEN CONTEST Young horsewomen throughout the State are invited to compete in the Annual Strawberry Days Rodeo Queen contest, to be held May 30. Contestants will be judged on riding ability, personality and beauty. They must be 16 years of age or older. Past Queens are not eligible but attendants are. They must be available for Days radio and TV appearances. The Queen and her attendants wiU reign over rodeo festivities June 18, 19 and 20. There is no entry fee, according to Vernon Ahman, rodeo chairman. Contestants may obtain applications by writing to Vernon Ahman, 309 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove, Utah 84062. Applications should be sent for and mailed back to Mr. Ahman before May 20. Cash awards are $50 for the Queen and . $35 to each attendant. JUSTICE FREEDOM DEMOCRACY The American Legion is announcing the election of officers for the coming year for post 48. This will be held Friday, April 24, 1970 at the Legion Hall. AH Legion mmbers are urged to attend to elect the new officers for the coming year 1970 and 1971. Discussion of changing the posts name wiU be decided upon this night. Meeting will start at 8:30 sharp, so be there when it starts. JUNIOR AUXILIARY The Junior Auxiliary of the Payson American Legion met Saturday, April 11, 1970 to bake cookies for the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake. Junior Leader, Lucille Allen had the girls come to the Legion Hall and they made the cookies to send to the Veterans. Eleven dozen cookies were made and Im sure that the patients will really enjoy them. The Units or Junior Auxiliary are asked to donate cookies to the Cookie Jar if they would like to. They have them as in between snacks and they really enjoy anything that is home made. Poppy posters During the past month schools in the Payson area have been working on Poppy Posters for the Payson American Legion Auxiliary. Chairman Lorna Powell took rules, paper and poppies to the schools so they could work on them. Each year this project is taken into the schools to make them more aware of why the poppy is sold. Banquet held The music banquet for the Biennial of the National League of Convention American Pen Women will be held in the main ballroom on the second floor of the Wilkinson Center at the Brigham Young University on Monday, April 27. Mirla Green Thayne and Virginia Evans of the banquet. There are are 350 women who anticipate attending. Dee Sanford and Iris Crump will assist in the convention plans. Mrs. Crump has designed dicorations for the event. A tour of the campus under the direction of Gary Bascom wiH begin at 4:30 p.m. Mrs. Thayne and Mrs. Evans, with the natiSnal officers, will receive guests at a reception to be held at 6:00 p.m. in the East Lounge of the main ballroom. The banquet will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the BYU with Wilma Boyer Bunker, General Chairman, presiding. HISTORY The National League of American Pen Women was founded in the 1800s by the daughter of William Wadsworth Longfellow. This is the second time the convention has been held elsewhere than in Washington D.C. Ticket sale success Officers and teachers of the ward and stake Primary in the local area successfully completed a sale of tickets to the Ice Follies, staged in the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City. The project was sponsored by the General Primary Association, with Nebo Stake Mrs. Clela Barnett, Nebo participating. Stake president of the Primary, reports that local workers sold about 200 tickets turning in a total of $779. Painter 4-- 78th birthday The 78th birthday observance of Mrs. Emma Peterson Painter of Santaquin will be celebrated on Sunday, April 26th at the family home 90 East and 3rd North from 2 p,m. to 6 p.m. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. She requests no gifts. Mrs. Painter was born in Santaquin on April 22, 1892, a daughter of Thomas and Ida Lundholm Peterson. She has lived here all of her life excepting for nine years in Monroe, Utah where her husband was an Sugar Co. employee of the Utah-IdaHe met his death in an industrial accident while employed there. She was married to Frank N. Painter in ho Utah on Sept. 15, 1913. The was later solemnized in the Salt marriage Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Painter died on April 10, 1929. They were the parents of seven children, five of whom are still living. During the week we met at Mrs. Crooks home where she demonstrated the three different steps used in putting in a zipper. We decided to change our meetings to Friday at 5:30. Benefit show Fashion Show for the benefit of the new Third Ward Chapel of Spanish Fork will be held April 23, at 8:00 p.m. in the Spanish Fork High School Auditorium. Tickets will be available at the door. All types of ladies ready to wear as well as mens wear will be modeled. Homemade candy and popcorn balls will be for sale and refreshments will also be sold. A Rubella Clinic The City and County Health Department of Utah County wishes to thank all who helped to make the Rubella Immunization program a success.
