Show THE PAYSON 3 CHRONICLE Thursday, May 8, 1969 Hold camp-o-re- e was held The conservation camp-o-rat the Meadow in Goshen Canyon, through the courtesy of the Mona Cattlemens Association and Bureau of Land Management. The conservation project was for each troop to plant shade trees around the meadow to provide shade in the future for picnicers and also plant iris plants in the washes near the meadow to prevent ee more soil erosion. The project was under the direction of the camping chairman for the Santaquin-Tinti- c District Boy Scouts of America, Dave White and his assistant, Fred Jensen. Hilights from Goshen Mrs. Evj Cook Phono ona Jensen. 274-330- Mrs. Dorothy Nelson and daughter, Wendy, of Salt Lake City, were in Eureka Saturday evening to see her son, Ronald Nelson, be made exalted ruler of the Elks Club at Eureka. They are former residents of Eureka and Payson. Mr. and Mrs. Max Anderson of Richfield visited and were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bee Jasper son last Sunday. Mrs. Edna Matheson had a big suprise when her daughters and granddaughters paid her a visit. Theday was spent visiting and housecleaning for Mothers Day. She served a delicious luncheon. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Buxton and Mr. and Mrs. P.G. Grieve visited Mr. and Mrs. William Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. George Cook and Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Finch, last Friday. Mrs. Mary Horton accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Larsen of Spanish Fork to Las Vegas, Nevada where they spent four days last week. They also attended the Shriners Convention. Mr. J.W, Finch Elberta were and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brough of Tooele and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Grieve, her daughter, Barbara; grandson, Robert; and his friend, Frank, of Salt Lake City were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Cook last Sunday. Mr. Roy Tachiki of inSt.GeorgeFridaytoattend Mr. and Mrs. Henry Roberts visited Sam Elton at Utah Valley Hospital last week. He had undergone eye surgery there. the Lions Club convention. Mr. and Mrs. June Davis of Lehi visited Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Steck last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson spent 3 days at the home of their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Merril Nelson at Granger. While there she was honored at a birthday dinner on Sunday. Her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Ross of Orem; and Dr. and Mrs. Fred Okelberry of Salt Lake City also enjoyed the day. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cook last Sunday were her mother, Mrs. Florence Gillespie; Mrs. Dorothy Nelson and daughter, Wendy, Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. George Gillispie and four children of Eureka; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gillispie of Salt Lake City and Mr. and Mrs. Kent Nelson and family of Goshen. Mrs. Jean Taylor of Hinkley visited Mrs. Ethel Green last Wednesday. Roger Hanna is at home visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kay Cook. He has Ween stationed at Fort Ord, Calif, where he will report this week. Sp4 Mrs. Sylvia Steck entertained the O.N.O. Club at her home last Thursday evening. Cards were played with prizes going to Elaine Nelson, Ethel Neilson, Arelene Kirk and LaVerne Kirk. Other members are Elaine Kirk, Devor Sornsen and Win Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tachiki of Elberta; and Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Finch of Goshen attended a banquet and evening entertainment honoring the 45th anniversary of the Milford Lions Club held at Milford, Utah, last Saturday night. ,, Mr. Duane Green spent three days in Vernal judging the ting contest last week. Right: Students of the Week showing outstanding 465-333- from West Mountain attended the Days of 47 Queen Contest held at the 17th L.D.S. Cultural Hall in Salt Lake. Contestants from West Mountain were Delois Gold, Susan Finch and Diane Christiansen. They were accompanied by their mothers Mrs. HyrumGold, Mrs. Robert Finch and Mrs. Glen Christiansen. Captain Vilda Ereckson also attended. Luncheon was served at noon. It was a very interesting experience for the girls and congratulations to them on their participation. There were 156 entries. Leader Mrs. Meg Wayman organized the first aid and home Tourniquet Trusties nursing club at a meeting Thursday afternoon at her home. Officers chosen were Jane Hendrickson President and Mindy Rowley Secretary. Other members are Tracy Wayman, Karen Bishop, Wendy Butler, Julie Finch, Colleen Rindlisbacher, Jeanne Williamson, Shauna Workman, and Rannell Hall. 4-- H West Mountain youth talent made a good showing at the Kiwanis Club Talent Contest finalists Friday and Saturday night at the Senior Citizens Hall Participants in the finals were Kevin Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hall, Lanette Schramm, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dowell Reed Schramm, Wendy Berry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Berry and Wendy Butler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Butler. Janice Bushman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bushman has been chosen to at Utah State attend Girls State July University at Logan. 6-- 12 Mr. and Mrs. Max Simonson and family from Manti were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marr Caldwell. The Baird chicken farm and the Carlisle Dairy farms were places of special interest Friday as a bus load, 50 first grade students of Mrs. Martha Tanner and Mrs. Doris Kenison, arrived to see just how eggs and milk are made ready for the market. Mrs. Baird reports she even candled and sorted the eggs. They all enjoyed her homemade cookies. Gary and Brad Carlisle, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Carlisle spent Thursday at the Spanish Fork Jr. Stock Show. Mrs, Leon (Claudine) Benson and two daughters, Stacy and Nikki Benson of El Cajon, California have spent the past two weeks with her parents Bishop and Mrs. Sterling Spencer. She plans on returning home on Wednesday. She has been here due to the illness of her mother, Mrs. Maxine Spencer. Spring Lake Events Unor. Huish Phon THencAcutt Talk about fairy tales, you sure would think this is one. Would you believe that Thinking Caps really work? We had to have Lori Etherington prove it to us. Lori brought a Thinking Cap to school, one she had made over the weekend. It was in a box and we were all curious including the teacher. Finally we opened the box and she told us it was a Magic Thinking Cap. She tried it on a boy in the class and he knew his timestables in one week. This happened in Mrs. Peterson 4th grade at the Wilson Grade. 445.2438 Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Spainhower and their family were very happy to receive a phone call Friday night from their son and brother, Gordon Spainhower, who has been in Vietnam the better part of a year and who was in Sidney, Australia on an R. and R. leave for seven days. Mrs, Spainhower had prepared supper for her husband and their sons and daughter and their children, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Spainhower, Robert Spainhower and Mrs. Cara Lee Wilson, both from Pleasant Grove, so they would all be there when the call came. All of the family including the children were able to say a few words to Gordon. He reported that living conditions had improved and that he had signed up for two more months service in Vietnam. He had been operating one of the big guns but stated that he had been changed and had been put with a National Guard unit and was now driving a 50 ton ammunition truck. He also said that while in Sidney they had been extensively entertained. They had enjoyed a beach party, a barbe-qu- e and had gone horseback riding. The Wilson Schools 1st and 2nd grades visited the Mountain View Dairy at Spring Lake Farm, they learned many interesting things about the automatic feeders and care of the cows. They enjoyed a delightful ride to see the dairy farms and orchards on the West Mountain on the way back to school. Their teachers are Mrs. Ivory 1st grade and Mrs. Hill 2nd grade. Norman Koontz Koontz is announcing the Shop on May 6, 1969, at 10 North Main in Payson. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hebner and family who having been living in the home owned by Bishop Russell Rich moved to Nephi last weekend to make their home. Mrs. Beatrice Y. Moore came on Friday and visited over the weekend at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George LeFevre. i Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Knapp are very proud parents of their new baby daughter born Friday morning, May 2, at the Payson Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds 7 ounces and will be named Monica Lori. She has a brother, Brian, two years old. Happy grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Dean Smith, Spanish Fork, and Mr, and Mrs Oliver Knapp, Spring Lake. are Mrs. Boyter, Panguitch and Mr. and Mrs, Reuben Carter, Spring Lake LeFevre; Mrs. LeFevres mother, Mrs. Beatrice Y. Moore; and the host couple. Mr. and Mrs. Hofeling were overnight guests of her sister, Mrs. Wilson, Saturday night. al The meeting of the Utah Association of Shade Tree Commissions will be held May 17th at Orem, Utah in the Orem High School from 9:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. A delegation or representative from each community is urged to attend as this is an educational meeting to help all cities in Utah with their shade tree problems. Loran Bishop and his partner and Mr. and Mrs. Angus Bishop enjoyed a cook out dinner preapred and cooked by Loran, Saturday evening. They later enjoyed a show together. Wednesday he accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Robert Finch and Mrs, Moon to Spanish Fork where they attended funeral services for Mrs. Lavina Croff. The Taylor Kindergarten Class, with Mrs. Anita Martin teacher, visited the Carlisle farm on Tuesday. Mrs. Ivan Carlisle took them on a tour to seethe ducks, pigs, cows, calves etc. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent by the class. Mrs. Nancy Pyne of Orem was honored guest at a birthday luncheon held at a Provo Cafe Wednesday afternoon. Others present were her mother, Mrs. Naomi Adams; her two sisters, Mrs. Sunda Rosenlof of Orem and Mrs. Janene DuBois of Pleasant Grove; and two nephews and a niece, David DuBois Cris Rosenlof and Teri Rosenlof. Mrs. Elmer Mower spent several days last week at the home of her daughter taking care of the children while their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Nelson, were away from home. attended the annual Mothers and Daughters Luncheon held by the Second Ward Relief Society at Santaquin and were the guests of Mrs. Butlers daughter, Mrs. Nola Rae Olsen, who is president of the Relief Society. The teens of the ward recently enjoyed a fireside held in the Ward Relief Society room after Sunday night meeting. 0 oil Mr. and Mrs. McKinley had a cousin of Mrs. Cooks, Mr. Desinoul Johnson of Orem, visit with them one day last week. Fifteen married couples spent a very pleasant time Saturday night when they met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Menlove for the first course of a progressive supper, a cocktail. From there they went to the Joseph Menlove home where salad was served, then on to the Louis Peterson home for the main course and finally to the home of Mr, and Mrs. Raymon Bas-co- m for dessert. Afterward they enjoyed playing the newlywed game. Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Zeeman are rejoicing over the birth of a baby son born Tuesday, April 29, at the Payson Hospital. The little lad weighed in at 7 pounds 14 ounces. He has one sister and three brothers, Lynette, Ronald, Raymond and Jeffry, who were happy to greet their new brother when he arrived home with his mother on Friday. Very happy grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Pieter Vandertoolen from Salt Lake and Mr. and Mrs. John (Jack) Zee-mof Payson. an SSgt. Dale H. Tanner and his wife Lauren and two sons Mark and Steven of Alamogordo, New Mexico are enjoying a weeks vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Tanner. SSgt Tanner has just returned from a three months duty in Germany. A family was held Sunday at the Lyle Tanner home and many pictures were taken. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Allred and family of Orem were present. Miss Rosalyn Moore spent the weekend with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Brent and two small daughters at Cloward, Mr. and Mrs. Abner Baird and Mrs. Rebecca Twede were guests at a birthday dinner Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Bartholomew ofSpringville. For the past three years he has been barbering at the Wilkinson Center Barber Shop on the Brigham Young University Campus.
