Show V, "Well, I'll Be A Monkey's Uncle" Byron Mendenhall Byron MendenhaU, 80 488 West Third North, Payson, died Monday morning April 21, 1969 at Payson City Hospital after an illness. He was born Feb. 6, 1889, at Maple-to- n, a son of John and Eliza R. Tew Mendenhall. He married Ida Marie Cher-ringtJune 9, 1915, in the Salt Lake Temple. He moved to Payson in 1916 and farmed for some 20 years in the West on Larry O. Robbins Mountain area, Mr. Mendenhall was an accountant, having been employed for some ten years as bookkeeper for the Strawberry Highline Canal Co. in Payson; two years as secretary of the F ederal Land Bank in Provo and for five years in the Utah County Recorders office at Provo. An active member of the LDS Church, he served as bishop of Payson Third Ward from 1941 to 1946. Previously, he had served as counselor to Bishop Leonard Hill, 4 years; and Bishop Golden Taylor, A Santaquin soldier, Pvt. Larry 0. Robbins, 24, died Sunday in Vietnam of combat wounds. In Vietnam since March, 1969, he entered the service on Sept. 11, 1968, and received basic training at Ft. Ord, Calif. A member of the Church of JesusChrist of Latter-da- y Saints, he served a mission to the British South Mission and was a student at Brigham Young University. Born Aug. 5, 1944, in Santaquin, he was a son of J. Marvin and Dorothy C. Nelson Robbins. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Ellison J. Hansen, Burrville, Sevier County; a brother and a sister, Gerald M., Bluffdale, and Mrs. Farrell (Carolyn) Huff, Springville. Funeral services for Pvt Larry O. Robbins, 24, who was kiUed April 13, 1969 of combat wounds will be conducted Thursday, April 24, 1969 at 1:00 p.m. in the Stake Center with Bishop Santaquin-Tinti- c Justin R. Lamb of the Santaquin Second Ward officiating. Friends may call at the Linde Mortuary Spanish Fork, on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the family home, 218 W. Main Street, Santaquin, prior to services on Thursday. Burial will be in the Santaquin City Cemetery under the direction of Fred H. Holladay, mortician. Military rites will be accorded by an Army unit from Dugway Proving Grounds. 4 Surviving are his widow of Payson; two sons and a daughter, Richard B. Mendenhall, Salt Lake City; Lynn J. Mendenhall, Spanish Fork; Mrs.' Leah Brimhall, Clearfield; 12 grandchildren; four brothers and a sister, J. W. Mendenhall, Cedar City; T. T. Mendenhall, Raymond, Alberta, Canada; Harney Mendenhall, Las Vegas, Nevada; W. B. Mendenhall, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Arthur (Retta O. Berry, Rexburg, Idaho. Funeral services will be held Thursday April 24, 1969 at the Payson 3rd Ward Church at 1:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Rigby Mortuary, Payson, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 1969 and Friday prior to services. Active in the LDS Church, she was a member of the Relief Society and had served in the Spanish Fork Seventh Ward as a visiting teacher for a number of years. Navy Supply Depot in Ogden, and later worked for the California Packing Company in Spanish Fork. For the past 24 years he had worked as a shearer at Geneva Steel Company. Active in the LDS Church, he had served as a home teacher and was an elder at the time of his death. Mr. Peterson was a member of theSteel-worke- rs Union. Survivors include his widow of Spanish Fork; one son and one daughter, Mrs. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and of the Spanish Fork Senior Citizens. She was also a member of the Black Hawk Post No. 1 of Spanish Fork. Michael (Marilyn) Provstgaard, Germany, and Larry Peterson, Provo; one grandchild, and one brother and two sisters, William Blaine (Bud) Peterson, Provo; and Mrs. Dick (Aileen) Lant, Payson, and Mrs. Tyler (Connie) Thornton, Santa Anna Calif. Burial was in the Spanish Fork Cemetery directed by Walker Mortuary. Robert Kenneth Wimmer of Riverside, Calif, passed away April 12, 1969. Born in Goshen, Utah, Dec. 1, 1915, a son of Robert and Katherine Riley Wimmer, he moved to Riverside when a boy. He is jL graduate of Riverside High School and Dusiness college. He served as an engineer on a merchant ship in World War IL He was a member of the Catholic Church. Services were held at a community mortuary at Riverside on April 15, 1969. His father, Robert Wimmer, is a former Payson resident. He is survived by one brother, John Theordor Wimmer, and one sister, Mrs. Margie Starger, and his mother of Riverside, Calif. F0 Mary Elizabeth Merritt Young, 83, 895 E. 400 N., Spanish Fork, former employee of The Del Monte Canning Company, died Wednesday, April 16, 1969 in the Payson City Hospital of causes incident to age. She was born Mar. 25, 1886, in Joseph, Sevier County, a daughter of Martin and Celia Hadden Merritt. She married James Darius Young on March 28, 1901, in Richfield. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Mr. Young died Oct. 28, 1956. Mrs. Young received her education in Joseph schools and became employed with the Utah-IdaSugar Company, and was a cook during the construction of Geneva Ainer S. Peterson, 50, RFD, Spanish Fork, employee of Geneva Steel Co. for the past 24 years, died Tuesday at his farm in Santaquin of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Peterson was born Jan. 23, 1919, in Santaquin, a son of Soren and Addie Armstrong Peterson. He married Mary Jane Snow on July 10, 1940, in the Manti LDS Temple. He received his education in Santaquin and Payson City schools. Following his marriage he made his home in Spanish Fork. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Peterson served in the U. S. Army at Fort Douglas dnd at El Paso, Tex., during the war. For one year he was employed at the Robert K. Speakers were Harold Swenson and Rex Young, a grandson, with a tribute that was written by a granddaughter, Julie BonBarney, and a nie Sorenson, given by Maud Miller. After remarks by Bishop L. Bernell Smith Max and Melba Nelson sang Come Unto Me And Rest, accompanied by Betty Hurst. Benediction was by Garth Hansen. Burial was in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Linde Mortuary where the grave was dedicated by Paul Ewell.
