While here she also spent a day as guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Johnson. Cloward Flod Ivan Cloward, 68, prominent business man of Santa-qui- n, died Aug. 23, 1968 at the Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City following a short turning to her home. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nielson accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Jess Barton of Springville to the Regional Riding Club Meet that was held at Richfield. illness. He was born Feb. 13, 1900, in Salem, a son of Orson P. and Lillie May Quinn Cloward. He married Erma Kay on Jan. 31, 1921, in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS tem- Arizona Saturday where she spent several days with her husband who is employed there. Dr. and Mrs. Don Markham left Saturday morning to return to their home in Long Beach, California after spending a few weeks visiting relatives here and in neighboring communities, They were house guests of his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Wood while in Salem. Albert Peterson enjoyed a fishing trip to Flaming Gorge Dan last week with his sons, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Peterson and family and Mr. and Mrs. Milton Peterson and family. Carson Spencer of Las Vegas, Nevada visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Spencer when he came to take his children home. They have been spending a vacation in Salem with their Mrs. Hanks Teddy flew to Phoenix, Correction: This is to correct the wrong information printed in thebirths last week. Aug. 6 a girl was born to Lt. Harry S. Tipton Lt. Harry S. Tipton, 94, retired, United States Army, died Sunday morning, Aug. 18, at a San Diego, Calif, hospital of natural causes. He was well known for many years as a Payson business man and for his gun collection which held as many as 705 guns dating back to 1570. A veteran of World Wars 1 and II, he held eight commissions with the Army of the United States, Infantry. He received his first commission in 1930 and in 1948, after World retired to the Reserves, with which he was associated for many years. He retained his rank title to his II, he War death. terms served six one-yeas commander of the Payson American Legion and four terms as Utah Director of Mar -kmanship, American Legion. He helped organize some 30 rifle clubs in Utah. He was a member of the Pay-so- n Police Force for several years and prior to his retirement was in charge of a lumber yard at the Tooele Ordinance Depot. For a short time after his retirement he was employed at the Star Theater in Payson. Born at Ft. Douglas, Utah, his father was a veteran of the Civil War. He was a descendant of a long line of machinists and blacksmiths, and assisted his father with operation of a blacksmith shop located in Payson at the corner of the He ar present Utah Avenue and First West Street, where Huish Theater is now located. He took over the blacksmith shop from his father and followed the trade until the advent of the automobile, when he converted the shop into a garage, which he operated until entering the Army at the start of World War I. He and his wife, Dora, and their five sons and daughters lived in the family home which now stands vacant just north of the Huish Theater for many years. Surviving is one son, Jack Tipton and two daughters, Margie Tipton and Lillian Smith, all of California. Russell I. Cannon Russell L. Cannon, 47, 627 5th E., Payson, was found dead Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1968 at Dugway where he was employed as a mechanic. He was born July 20, 1921, in Payson, a son of Steve and Eva Naomi Cole Cannon. He never married. Mr. Cannon was a member of the American Legion, Post No. in the Navy. years he had 48, having For the past 16 been employed at Dugway. He received his education in Payson Schools. He was a member of the LDS Church. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. Survivors include his mother of Payson; one brother and two sisters, Blaine Cannon and Mrs. Glen (Naomi) Peterson, both of Payson, and Charlene Cannon, Salt Lake City. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Payson Fourth LDS Ward Chapel. Burial in the Payson was City Cemetery. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 27, 1968 in the Santaquin-Tinti- c in-la- Stake Center for Ivan Floyd Cloward. Bishop H.E, Bradley conducted. A family prayer at the Mortuary prior to leaving for the Chapel, was offered by Jesse ' Livingston. Prelude and Post-lumusic was played by Jerry Davis. The invocation was offered by Bishop Lloyd Smith and the Singing Mothers sang, Look Up To Him under the direction of Ida Greenhalgh and accompanied by Sandra Armstrong. After remarks by Bishop Bradley, speakers included Gordon Heelis, George Cheever and a tribute was given by Estella Peterson. Doris Gasser sang, Silver Haired Daddy of Mine accompanied by Betty Winegar and Carl Nelson Jr. sang, Goin Home, accompanied by Betty Winegar. Benediction was pronounced by Carlyle Wall. The grave was dedicated by Frank Sorenson, and pallbearers were Jim Cloward, Lee Cloward, Larry Butler Gregory Cloward, Bill Barney and Dave Harmon. de Andrew H. Sorensen Funeral services were conducted in the Goshen Ward Chapel for Andrew H. Sorensen, August 21, 1968. Bishop Joel V. White conducted. A family prayer at the Mortuary prior to leaving for the Chapel was offered by Stanley Powelson. The Singing Mothers sang, Old Rugged Cross under the direction of Fern Horton and accompanied by Madge Thompson Speakers were OrvalGressmen and Curtis Sorensen with a tribute being given by Irma Pen-roMusical numbers included a duet, When I Take My Vacation in Heaven sung by Winni-fre- d White and Mary Lee Boswell and accompanied by Sally d. Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Spencer and daughters, Tamma and Janet, son, Jeff, and four grandchildren drove to the Salt Lake Airport Monday and saw their son Randy off to San Diego, California where he is stationed with the US Navy. He entered the service August 12, 1965. Russell Christensens horse' Alibee won first place in the half mile race that was held at Tooele last week. His daughter Karla Jones entered in several events winning 4th in the barrel race and 3rd in the water race. Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Halverson of Glendale, California, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Hanks Sunday before returning to their home after spending a month visiting friends and relatives at Salem and vicinity. Miss Karen McKellor and her mother of Bountiful were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Hanks Wednesday. Miss McKellor is a student at Houston, Texas. She is studying Heart Research and is also a Stake LDS Missionary in the same ward that their son, Elder Kirt Hanks, is in. RidMembers of the Wa-hClub and their wives ing enjoyed attending the Regional Horse Meet held at Richfield for two days. They participated in several events winning 2nd place in the Parade Class and will compete at the State Meet at Richfield September 7 in this event. oo Mrs. W. E.
