Bennet announced Monday that the Post Office Department has changed its mind and plans to keep six Utah Post Offices open. Senator The department had planned close a number of small post offices throughout the United States including the Lasalle, Laverkin, Thistle, Henrieville, Howell and Yost Post Offices in to Utah. Postmaster General Marvin Watson told Senator Bennett Monday that by exempting the Post Office department from a rollback congress personnel has made it possible for the department to keep open post offices rather than to carry out a timetable of service reduction. Watson told Senator Bennett The Department will now revert to the normal policy of closing post offices only after considering all the factors affecting the individaul office including the question of whether the patrons involved can be provided equal or better service. It is my sincerest belief that the majority, if not all of Payson residents, are without doubt, proud of their park, which in my opinion they, as well as myself, have a right to be as far as improvements and beautification is concerned. and provements, some of which cannot be done right now or even over night, whether it be civic orimprove-men- ts 75-9-- 5, of our habits and welfare. It is possible Mrs. McBride that you visited our park on a holiday week end when there had not been ample time for the custodian to accomplish his many duties in maintaining our park? Why not contact our present custodian, Mr. Harold Hawker, and have him explain to you some of the many duties he is to perform, such as weeding flowers, irrigating and sprinkling, cutting lawns, raking lawns and leaves, cleaning up after some of the partys that are held in the park, some reunions, picking up beer cans, paper cups, papers after vandals have littered the park and surrounding area - etc? There are probably more people that visit and enjoy our park now than when you lived here and you probably realize also, that our park consists of a rather large area and there are a lot of different people who visit our park. Some of whom take pride in themselves and dont leave litter in the park after their visit or picnic. But there are some who dont and this places extra duties on the custodian which occupies much of his time so that he is unable to perform some of the other duties that he is required to do. also stated in your article that you do not wish to embarrass our custodian, due to the fact of the park not being up to (which is your expectations, very considerate) It is my opinion as well as many others that our custodian is doing a splendid job, as our custodians in the past have done. It is possible Mrs. McBride that if you had or took the occasion to visit our park and community more frequently you would be able to recognise the improvements that are being performed daily? With all the beauty contained in Payson City Park I dont see how it (the park) can even be classified in the same catagory as the 10 most wanted as there is no comparison what so ever. Also did you have the opportunity to view the improvements that were accomplished due to the cooperation of most residents and our Beautification Committee? If not please try to do so. Its amazing what cooperation can achieve. All in all Mrs. McBride we are all proud oftheparkandour custodians, past and present and would like you to be too. This article was written in good faith and sound judgement and all or any comments will be appreciated. Thank you Robert L. Jackson Payson, Utah You 1968.
