One is located in the store and the other in an outside booth to service. provide Instead of conventional open-wi- re lines, the phones are part of a microwave system which beams messages to a mobile telephone operator in Salt Lake City. Calls made from Ibapah are then directed to their destinations by the operator. In the past, when calls had to be made, residents traveled the 60 miles to Wendover. About ur six trips were made each week for that purpose more than half the distance being over dirt roads. The community continued in the 1860s and Ibapah was left isolated. For a short time in the 1930s, a telephone was available twelve miles distant in Gold Hill, a now defunct mining town. When the mining effort was given up, the telephone failed to be maintained and was soon eliminated from service. The name Ibapah" is the English derivitive of an Indian word meaning clay water. Water in the valley is tinged with clay from the soil. Residents include about 50 white persons who run cattle and sheep ranches and some 150 Goshute Indians living on a reservation in the south end of the valley. The first white settlers were people who had been associated with the Pony Express and the telegraph. Date of settlement was 1860. Ibapah was a Pony Express station for only 16 months. From 'the standpoint of technology,' the community has advanced slowly due to its rfemote location. Water is obtained from private wells and electricity diesel from individually-owne- d or gas generators. Supplies for the two stores. in Ibapah are trucked in by private carrier. You shouldbe interested to know that this July should mark the completion of all construction areas and that in the next few weeks it is hopeful that our landscaping will be put in order. If you havent already done so, you would be very proud if you took the opportunity to make arrangements with the Hospital Administrator for your family or club or other groups to visit this beautiful edifice, possibly after the first of August when all inside construction items should be completed. As we are in the last stages of our building and construction program, we find that the budget has been very close and the excellent planning has been most successful to meet the When we were practically starving my poor wife Leona would be worrying herself to death; she wanted me to try something else. But I would tell her that everything happens for the best and that I would move on to something better and it has worked out that way. But I sure had a heckuva time convincing her when I was shifting from one city to another. Salt Lake City is one of the few cities I didnt get fired in." Atkinss soothing music is internationally known and will be demonstrated for the first time in Salt Lake City. Backing up the principals will be the Nashville all stars, The Music City and the Nashville strings sounds of brass. The talented 84651 HOSPITAL says. v& basic financial needs. However, there is one matter of grave concern to many of our patients as they come to the Hospital, and that is that there are no television sets. We are all quite well aware of the fact that it is most desirable In our day, and really an expected nicety to help the patient in his recovery, to have a television set in his room. Mr. Nielsen, the Hospital Administrator, suggests that hospital television sets are a necessary luxury, but that we will probably need to secure them by gaining some financial assistance from the clubs or' service groups in our communities. He said that for a few more weeks we have the available participation from the program (Governmental assistance with hospital construction) which would help greatly in defraying the cost of the fifty TV sets that are needed. Do you belong to a club or a group that would like to participate in making this possible? Perhaps you have a rich uncle or a sock under the mattress that could be loosened up. If you have, or know of anyone who is interested, please contact the Hospital Administrator or Business Manager. With the assistance under the present construction program, plus $110, one fine quality -mounted TV set can be purchased. Plans have been arranged so that any amount in multiples of $110 will be given special attention and a recognition gold medallion will be mounted on the set designating the contributing group or persons. We want you to know, though, that any amount of contribution will be gratefully accepted and appreciated. Please do not donate television sets, since construction has been provided for certain tvpe of units with special mounting and controls perculiar only to the hospital setting. May we not overlook the most excellent spirit and cooperative attitude that so many, many of citizens our community-minde- d have expressed in willing and able service in helping the program and cause for excellent health care. Our sincere thanks and gratitude is extended to the many who have done so much in the past. May we continue to progress and develop to the point of excellence in our Hospital and health care facilities by remembering that this is your Hospital - people caring for people. After all, every minute of each and every day young Americans between the age of 18 and 21 are giving their lives for this country and its leaders. Yet, thus far they have not had the opportunity to vote for these leaders they are dying for. It has been proven by polls taken in the past that these young people are generally better informed than many of the voting generation. A drastic change would surely come to the campaigns being carried forth. As the candidates tried new methods of swaying the masses of young new voters. Voting for our leaders is a real privilege, and if this bill is passed i n t o law it should be recognized and treated as such. If not treated seriously this privilege might just as easily be withdrawn as it can be made Jl FOR COMPLETE CAR SERVICE GUARANTEED dOSCO Q3MEB y Choice of 3 grades of fine quality Firestone lining!
