Won Grass is the World's most plentiful of all Crops Grass is the worlds most plentiful crop. Grasses such as corn, wneat, rice, or sugar cane, supply us with a large of our food. Forage both native and introduced, feed our livestock and meny game .animals. Grasses are great soil builders. They part grasses, convert great stretches of marshland and tidal flats into productive mea lowland in of we have rich black soils of the prairies. Much of grasses, our most intensively cropped natural grassland. Grasses protect the land from Wind and water erond the .oil v.th sion. Tiic1;fiberous roots. Grasses use water efficiently, compared to many other Plants. They help stablize Water yellds from Watersheds and convert water to economc plan growth. Grasses contribue greatly to our enjoy- land was formerly - Rules for 1967 950-se- at ment. They beautify our homesteads, parks, and other recreation areas, and the countryside. All flesh is grass, Isaiah says in the Bible. Grass has not diminished in importance through the ages. Animals depend primarily on grass for food. Even microscopic organisms in the soil feel on grass roots. Common cereal plants, such as corn and wneat, are members of the grass family, that have been selected and bred for certain uses, such as seed production or forage. Some grasses are used for fiber products. When all the uses of grasses and its wide distribution are considered, the truth of John J. Ingalls grass tribute is evident; Shoud its harvest fail for a single season, famine wou'd depopulate the earth. In the United States nearly a billion acres, or a little over half of the total acres, produce grass for livestock grazing and big game animals. Everyone I have talked to feels the tabernacle should be preserved and used for some community purpose. But in the meantime, what about vandalism? Whose children have made targets of the windows with harmless snow-bal- ls and now more deadly rocks and B-- B guns? Parents should caution their youngsters against doing damage to the building. PAYSON CHRONICLE A weekley newspaper, Periwinkle asc6,i7n taamraanTTnci Golf changed in the rules for Changes 1967 handicaps were explained at a gathering of representatives of about fifteen minicipal and private Golf courses of the cenral and southern area of the of Utah, Friday night, March 24, 1967 at the clubhouse of the Riverside GolfCIuo at Provo. Represented were members of both the mens and ladies organizations. Steve formerly held the position of President of the state organization for a period of 13 years, so knows the ins and outs of the golf world. Nine directors make up the organization coming from all sections of the sta'e and all courses both municipal and private. All courses in the state have bean rated and measured in the past year to insure uniformity in making handicaps. There are courses in the state 46 IN PAYSON In times gone by periwinkles were used for making chaplets to be placed around the heads of Important persons. In fact the name periwinkle comes from the Latin words for bind and about. Nowadays gardeners find periwinkle a useful plant for hot spots in the garden as it tolerates heat so well. Periwinkles are upright growing, bushy little plants, most about a foot and a half high. All kinds have glossy leaves and large. iipk blooms. These are white, i vk or rose often with an e,f or center of another color. Thus, the variety Bright Eyes has white flowers with rose eyes while Twinkles is blush pink with a bright red eye, haloed with rose. Periwinkles are easily grown from seeds, bloom all summer and fall and never are troubled by diseases or insect pests. Wouldnt they be a fine addition to your garden?
