Taylor, Professor of Agronomy at Utah State University, has been elec ted a Fellow in the American Society of Agronomy. The announcement of this high honor was made at the annual of ASA, August, 22, barq-eat Cornell University. Dr. Taylor was born in Salem, Utah, February 16, 2918. He obtained his, BS degree in Agronomy from Utah State University in 1941 and the Ph.D degree from Cornell Univeiisty in 1949. He then joined Utah State University us an Assistant Professor of Soil Physics in the Agronomy Depaument and has held the rank of Professor since 1955. He seived in the U. S. Army during Woild War II and gained the rank of Major. He has remained active in the Reserve Research, and Development Program. Most of his research has dealt with the physical pro bltms of soil moisture and irrigation. Dr. Taylor has made unique contributions to his field by combining basic research with practical application of principles to field problems. He has published over 50 papers dealing with soil arcation, soil climate, moisture, soil structure, soil and plant-wate- r relations, and His studies have irrigation. provided some of the best available information on the relationships between moisture supply and fertility as related to growth and yield of alfalfa, potatoes, sugar beets, peas and barley. Dr. Taylor has been very active in the affairs of the society. He has served as chairman of Division 1, Division VI and of the Terminology Committee. For the past year Dr. Taylor has been on sabbatical leave from USU having accepted a National Science Foundation FellowSenior ship to study Thermodynamics of Irreversible Processess with Professor I. Pregogine at the University of Brussels Belguim. He will return to the U.S.U. campus the first part of September.
