The question came up in Sunday School the other day, Is man a victim of circumstances or is he the victim of A small book I have a plan, been perusing lately entitled, As A Man Thinketh by James Allen pretty well ex plains a mans relationship to his circumstances. Id like to quote a few thoughts which may be helpful to you if you are in a New Years Resolution and. Repentant mood: Man is buffeted by circunv stances so long as he believes himself to be the creature of outside conditions, but when he realizes that he is a creative power, and that he may command the hidden soil and Federal makes table for sales tax deduction on return A table reflecting average state sales tax payments by district residents was announced today by Roland V. Wise, District Director of Internal Revenue at Salt Lake City. Mr. Wise said that the table may be used as a guide by District taxpayers in claiming sales tax deductions on their Federal income tax returns for 1960. Taxpayers who itemize their deductions instead of taking the standard deduction on Forms 1040 or 1040W may find the table helpful in estimating the amount to claim for sales taxes on their returns. Mr. Wise stated that the law requires taxpayers to substantiate any deductions claimed on their returns and if requested they must be prepared to do so. Ordinarily, however, they will not be asked to produce records to support the sales tax deduction claimed unless it exceeds the amount shown in the table. Taxpayers who have questions on this subject may telephone the local Internal Revenue office - extensions at EMpire 223 224 and The sales tax table is based on a 2M sales tax which applies to counties which have adopted the additional optional sales tax. In those counties which have not adadditional sales opted this tax, the table should be reduced by 257-25- 8. 20. The outer world of circumstance shapes itself to the inner world of thought, and both pleasant and unpleasant external conditions are factors vhich make for the ultimate good of the individual. As the reaper of his own harvest, man learns both by suffering and bliss. Circumstance does not make man; it reveals him to himself. Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are. The divinity that shapes our ends is in ourselves. Not what he wishes and prays for does a man get but what he justly earns. His wishes and prayers are only justified and answered when with his they harmonise thoughts and actions. Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore remain Pound. The man who does not shrink from ion can never fail to accomp iish the object upon which his heart is set. This is as true of earthly as of heavenly things. A man cannot directly choose his circumstances, but he can choose his thoughts, and so indirectly, yet surely, shape his circumstances. Let a man cease from his sinful thoughts, and all the world will soften toward him, and be ready to help him. . So you can understand why I did a double-tak- e the other day when a fellow came in, gift cash in his pocket, and said he was really sorry to see Christmas go. Hed looked at a family Christmas tree plenty of times, naturally. Seen his own tree, with his kids clustered around, five or six years in a row. But this season, some of the Christmas camera uds made him seen something new picture possibilities for the first time: Pictures like the rainbow of lights reflecting on tinsel. Excited, expectant faces. He wanted it on movie film, trouble was , by Christmas morning it was too late he didnt have a camera. Next year, he told me. For Sure. Who could resist an opening like that? Why not start now?, I asked. Then I showed him how easy and inexpensive it was with a Brownie 8 Movie Camera. I let him take a good look findthrough the optical-typ- e er. Let him see how easy the exposure dial works. The spebar cial wide shutter-releas- e making for steadier grip. The folding crank that gives a fast wind. The motor that cuts off smoothly at the end of the power run. Price " he said. $24.50, I said. he Good enough, said. So out with the gift cash and off into a new hobby. Turned out hed dropped in just to buy a camera anyway didnt want to put it off and wind up in the same spot next January 1. Now hes set for a whole year of g fun in between. How about movies for your family? No time, as the saying goes, like the present. Be glad to show you the Brownie 8 Movie Camera any time. movie-makin- Phone 465-222- 4 - Payson, Utah A $24.95 SPREAD This suite is typical of the big selection DTR is offering during this January 'romotion. bonuses Exceptional given with each.
