Show ' The Payson Chronicle, Payson, U!:h THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1939 The Soil Profile By Clyde T. Lowe to FOR . . . THE BELL RINGS It always bothers me a little to hear that statement attributed to the psyhologist, William James, that we only use a tenth of our mental capacity. Certainly no two of us would use the same amount so does he mean up to one tenth or just what does he mean? If one of you in the upper one tenth could tell me where I could find more on the subject I would be most grateful. Id like to be able to get at that unused nine tenths (maybe thats our reserve for this business of Eternal Progression) and see if it isnt better than what Im using now. Of course I already know" better than I am able to do so maybe it would be just as well to let the do catch up with the know and worry -- si NOW OPEN TO HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS The week of November 20 26, 1959 has been proclaim ed Nation ad Farm STAKE SANTAQUIN-TINTI- C ARMY RESERVE ENLISTMENT PROGRAM S - Week City by President Eisenhower. The six months active duty program for young men 18 V2 to 25 has a few quotas available. Young men enlisting under this program must begin their active duty training either in January or February, 1960. After completing the six months active duty phase, the young man returns to his home and completes his military obligation with his home town reserve unit. Perhaps more important is the unlimited enlistment quota now evailable for high school seniors between the ages of 17 and 18'. This program permits the high school senior to enlist now, while in school, and guarantees that he will not be called to active duty until after graduation. Normally, these young men are called for their six months active duty training within 120 days after graduation from high school. By enrolling under this plan the young man considering college or employment training assures himself of having his active duty military obligation out of the way prior to school enrollment or employment. He is assured, barring a national emergency, of completing his college or employment training without interruption for military training. Young men enlisted under either of these programs receives one days pay for each drill they attend with their unit. In addition, the time spent with the unit prior to active duty training is deduct ed from the overall military obligation of the individual. Opportunities for training in a civilian or military specialty are unlimited. And, for the young man with ambition, promotion is rapid. The Army Reserve Center is open on drill nights only. Enquiries may be made either in person or by telephoning the Provo Training Center, FR Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Interested young men, or parents, are encouraged to attend a drill with their local Army Reserve unit. Drills are scheduled at the local Army Reserve Training Center bn the following dates: 12 and 18 November. All drills start at 7:30 p.m. and end at approximately t ! 10 p.m. Potash grows with Utah Potash promises to become one of Utah's important minerals. From a small beginning on the salt flats near Wendover in 1939, potash has become the leading mineral industry of Tooele County. Now a new era is approaching. Vast underground deposits in Grand County promise maor production with new jobs, payrolls, supply purchases and tax payments to benefit the people of Utah. Man must be considered obsolete because, in the course of time, he has been able to change everything but himself. Hurley (quoted by Stella H. Oakes at MIA Institute).
