At the present time a program of immunization against preventable diseases is being carried out in the schools throughout Utah County. All children should be immunized during the first year of life against smallpox, diptheria, whooping cough and tetanus. The reason for the present low incidence of these diseases is the program of immunization. Vaccine against Polio will be supplied by the State Department of Health to your physician. Parents whose children have not had protective against Polio should get in touch with their family physician. Grant Gardner, assistant superintendent Nebo School District, has reported to the Chamber of Commerce that there are certain risks and penalties of a severe nature which an employer might encounter if he does not employ minors in a proper way by securing a work permit. The law has been liberalized to allow employers to more easily employ minors but in order to be protected under their workmans compensation insurance in case of injury to a minor on the job, they must have first secured a work permit authorizing such employment. Members of the Chamber of Commerce are urged to secure work permits during this slack season of the year for any boys working in cafes, service statioas, jtores, or otherwise on a part time basis both as a protection and to avoid penalties for having proceeded without being in accordance with the regulations with the Child Labor Relations Act tv. satellite peoples! There is a much lower percentage of protection against these preventable diseases among the babies and young children than there is in school age children. Children are most susceptible to some of these diseases during their early years, and should all be protected. County Medical, Public Health, and Civil Defense leaders all urge parents to see that their children have proper protection against all preventable diseases. We urge that parents contact their family physicians regarding obtaining this protection during the first year of life of their babies. Take advantage of this procedure.
