" Even a small home vegetable garden should be planned, to balance production with the family needs. Without a planned productipn schedule, It is a common experience to harvest an overabundance of quick growing crops in the early summer, and have none at all later In the season. This can be avoided by estimating in advance how much of each crop your family can use during the period when its quality is high. Then several plantings can be made, so that when the first crop has passed its prime, another will be ready to harvest. In the table above, the time it takes each of twelve popular vegetables to reach table size is stated, with the period it remains in prime condition in the garden. It also tells how much space in the row is required to produce one serving of each for the average vegetable family of four. You must supply the fourth factor in figuring a schedule, which is the number of servings your family will desire from each sowing. Then sow enough to produce the family needs for the period of good JOIN THE... - rmi harvest, and plan repeated aow-ing-s, timed so your needs are provided all season. There is another class of vegetables, which require only one sowing for the summer. But the space allotted each should be balanced with the family use. Data for estimating the garden space required for these crops Club report to REPORT . . . Pres. Eisenhower receives nation from six representatives In Washington for National 4--H 4-- H Club Week. Hardy crops should be sown as soon as the ground can be worked, regardless of frequent frosts. Tender crops, and all plants started under protection, should not be sown or set out in the garden before danger of frost is over. To obtain the yields for tomatoes and cucumbers estimated in the table, both must be trained on stakes or fences, to reduce the ground space FOR THE BEST in 2 agement, together with evidence that a copy of such protest or has been served upon jj objection the State within 30 days from the date of the first publication of this notice, (sgd.)
