Show THE PAYSON CHRONICLE. Payson, Utah FRIDAY. APRIL 10. 1953 By Dorothy homes of the American people. These policies do not change overnight because the ideals of we Americans dont change. But this is not the case with Russia. The latest peace" moves by the Red leaders show us one thing. We are not dealing with a nation of 300 million men and women. We are dealing with a handful of despots who can blow hot or cold at will, Leaders back hera feel this is no time to dampen our powder. School Lunch Funds I received several letters this week from people back home to the effect that the new Congress and Administration were threatening to cut out the federal school lunch funds. One superintendent wired me that he understood funds were going to be cut $75 million and that such a cut would work a hardship with on low income families school children. Money Well Spent Since I feel that the school lunch program is good in that where it belongs in childrens stomachs rather than cold storage I immediately looked into the matter. Just what sort of cut was contemplated and what would be its effect on lunch famlow income funds and ilies? deficit-anticipatin- Mrs. Thomas Saturday the following attend, Mr. and Mrs. McClain Nelson ed Primary conference in Salt from Idaho Falls, visited last week at the home of Mr. and Lake: Mrs. Wilma LeBaron, Mrs. Melba Nelson, Mrs. Alice Ewell, Mrs. Willard Smith. Congressman Busbey, Chairman of the Committee, told me that recently the Office of Education planned to send 40 delegates at federal expense to a convention in Atlantic City. Trick or Truce Like the rest of the world, Washington this week was with speculation about the peace moves of Soviet Russia. Whatever the outcome of the the Reds policy change may be, the fact that such a change could occur overnight should serve as a warning to all Americans and free people. Track Cleared Thirty-sev- of e 38 ore-lad- en railroad cars sandwiched together when a Union Pacific freight train wrecked at Benjamin Feb. 15 have been cut up, hauled away and sold for junk, railroad officials said Saturday in reporting on the final cleanup of the wreck. The 38th car, jammed down 11 feet into the earth by the terrific pileup, was left buried in the ground and the repaired track built right over it. The entire train had 96 cars, but only 38 left the track when a rail gave way. The iron ore in the cars was so mixed with dirt it was impossible to salvage it, officials said, and it was used in grading the new roadbed for the rebuilt track. The line, a freight track to Cedar City and the iron mines to supply Geneva and Ironton, has been rebuilt and open over Its original bed for about two weeks while cleanup work went on. A spur track was built around the wreck and raffic was bypassing it the same day of the wreck which occured just about midnight. Final cleanup of the week was completed last week. No one was injured in the wreck, which occurred when a rail spread just after the engine passed over it. Repair expenses were not disclosed but officials said they couldnt recall a worse railroad wreck on that line and it was definitely one of the worst the branch has had. One big factor in cutting down the expense, was the value they continued, of the ore was not too great. ma drive Oldsmobiles dynamic the most new Super "88"!
