Christmas Holiday Plans Laid at Legion Meet legislative Council I A. C. Mrs. Plans for the Christmas holidays w'ere discussed Wednesday night at the regular weekly meeting of the American Legion held at the Legion hall under the direction of Blair Davis. December 27th was selected as the date for the annual Christmas party for the Legion and Auxiliary, with Byron Davis and Jack Spencer named chairmen of decoration of the building and Glen Badham, George Olson and Bill Snyder appointed to purchase ornaments. The Auxiliary will assist in decoration of the building on Dec. 13. Announcement was made that Quarry workers, who hold meetings in the building, have offered to purchase a Christmas tree. Veteran Flyer Johnson, a veteran pilot, had 3,360 hours in the air including 37 missions as a pilot in Europe in World War II. Lt. Col. Johnson was base comptroller at the Kirtland base. He was born at Woodruff, Rich . county, a son of Lorin and Mary Eastman Johnson, and came to Payson with his family at the age of two. He lived here until he joined the service in 1939. He graduated from the Payson High school and later attended the Brigham Young University receiving a bachelor of science degree in marketing. Joins Guard in 1939 LaVar joined the national guard in 1939 and later the army tir force as a cadet winning his wings and graduating at San Antonio in June 1940. Lt. Col. Johnson married Margaret McCormick of Eureka in June 1940 at San Antonio, Texas. They have four children, Judy, Becky, Mary Jo and Jeffery.
