Show nmipuntiin June 25 2003 Gunnison Valley NevvsSalina Sun A small group of Young Women from the Gunnison the High Adventure program Other than one night The Dynamites Fastpitch Softball Team from Manti traveled to Cedar City for the Summer Games on 6 thru the 8th coming home wifh the Gold Medals At the Brigham City Tournament the week before they dropped into the loser bracket but battled back after playing 5 games back to back to play Front Row Lindsay Larsen Andi Shaw in the championship game placing 2nd in the Tournament Second Row Mckell Ashton Cassidie Lund Mandy Hatch Lacie Collard Back Row Coach Dale Nielson Jessie Nielson AuBrie Cox Jennie Nielson Holli Harman Stevanie Coburn and Coach Chad Larsen June Local Six Couinty RSVP Project Receives National Support An elite group of Six County known is "Sr RSVP volunteers Sentinels" received unexpected assistance recently from the U S Administration on Aging Five Hundred (500) copies of the Elder Abuse posters which were created by the local project two years ago will be made available through support provided by the U S Administra00 tion on Aging under Grant AP 2144 to the National Association of State Units on Aging for the National Center on Elder Abuse This local volunteer project was begun three years ago with a grant of only $5000 from the National Center on Elder Abuse to Six County RSVP of The major accomplishment that grant was the production of a series of five professional-qualitposters created with the talented assistance of Clark These Knight Photography only five of the depict posters forms of elder abuse: Physical Abuse MentalVeibal Abuse Financial Exploitation Caretaker and Self Neglect The posters have been used as billboards on major roadways along the Wasatch front in Utah and in Michigan They were included in a ity of Sr Sentinel volunteers to continue todraw attention to the problem of Elder Abuse in the Six County area - and in Utah Sentinels share information on the many different types of der Abuse what Utah lawsays about it and what to do if you suspect Elder Abuse may be occurring in your neighborhood Sr Sentinel volunteers are Poster Exhibit in Geneva Switzerland last year and will be used as section headings addressing Elder Abuse in a college text book planned for release later this year he success of the Senior Sentinel project is directly attributable to the effective partnership between the Utah Southeast Region Adult Protective Services office Six County RSVP Utah APS Six County Area Agency on Aging and other key part- available to speak to your many World Health Organization (WHO) Domestic Violence church group civic club or spe- cial interest group without charge Call Kathy Erickson at THE VOLUNTEER CONNECTION at ext 28 or in Sevier County call ext 28 Stake ventured of down fighting off mosquitos the Green River the girls had a Gunnison Girls survive High Adventure floating the Green On June 9 fifteen happy travelers gathered at the Stake Center to go on a High Adventure trip canoeing down the Green River as part of the Young Women Camp Program Marsha Anderson organized the trip The priesthood leader was President Curtis Anderson Eleven camp girls went on the trip including Kassie Brown Hollie Simmons Crystal Young Laci Higgins Jessica Despain Camille Jensen Sadie Westover Emily Stoker Amanda Willden Stephanie Boore and Ashlee Anderson Carolyn Childs Stake Camp director and Ruth Christensen Stake Young Women President also went on the trip Kim and Kaye Pickett helped drive the group to the Green River and helped d rive the cars to the place where the girls got out of the river The first night was spent in the by the river in the campground town of Green River On Tuesday morning they loaded up the canoes and started down the river After rowing 27 miles the first day the girls were all tired but proud of their accomplishment President Anderson found a delightful place private and secluded to camp that night That evening the group sang songs and was entertained by President Anderson with a fun song and skit he has done for the Boy laving these additional postgreatly enhance the abil- -
