Council Due to the dry conditions the City encourages all residents property owners and absentee homeowners to plow up those dry weeds and grass and get rid of whatever is in your yard that is a fire hazard Residents are encouraged to clean up and use the regular service by putting their garbage out on their assigned day although dumpsters will be in place for the city cleanup Remember White's Sanitation will collect and haul away all garbage collected in your receptacle as well as other garbage that is packed boxed or otherwise readily capable of being deposited into White's garbage truck by one person of average strength and ability White's will also collect bulky waste which is defined to include items such as sofas water heaters refrigerators and materials left over from minor home improvement projects Eligible bulky waste shall not include automobiles automobile parts tree trunks large portions of trees portions of buildings being dismantled rocks cement and similar items which cannot be reasonably lifted by two persons of average strength and ability Please note that the GunniComson City Beautification mittee is again being formed Anyone interested in serving on the for May 8 a Gunnison watering City is sponsoring workshop on Wednesday May 8 2002 at 7:30 pm in the Gunnison City Hall This workshop will be presented by Joe Whittaker of the Water Resource Division Fountain Green Hatchery Nears Completion by Bob Bahlmann Staff Writer The 5 4 million dollar Fountain Green fish hatchery project is nearing completion and will start producing fish sometime next month According to Hatchery Supervisor the new facility will receive Terry Howick its first shipment of eggs some time in June but the dedication will probably not be scheduled until late summer or early fall "This is a great facility" said Howick "It’s state of the art" The new hatchery will use the same amount of water as the old one but will produce four times the number of fish An oxygen injection system coupled with baffles to prevent waste buildup are egsfftqf A ttr jrf a ' the keys to increased fish production There are also micro screens that are designed to remove all of the waste from the water before it is sent into the area's irngation system According to Howick the Fountain Green Hatchery is "a bargain for the people of the state" Most of the funding for the project came Irom the federal government A little over $4 million came from the Central Utah Project Completion Act The State of Utah provided the balance The hatchery will produce ov er two million fish annually with most of them going to some of the state's most popular recreational fishing waters Even though the fish will be stocked in lakes as far away as Bear Lake in northern Utah local anglers will benefit as well "There will be more catchable rainbows in all of the Sanpete waters" said Howick On the schedule for the hatchery will be the production of 3 million cutthroat trout most ot which will be going to Bear Lake and Strawberry Reservoir Four hundred thousand Kokanee salmon will also be raised for Strawberry The hatchery will produce rainbow trout and some 150000 tiger trout as well
