Show Close Up Council okays sale of wafer Gunnison City Council voted 4 1 to sell water to Dale T Smith and Son's Meat Packing Company if they choose to locate a new facility near Fayette The vote was a part of the council's regular December 5 2001 Only Councilman Scott Hermansen voted against the motion According to figures prepared by Councilman Brian Jensen the city could earn as much as S67500 by selling water to the company Using the assumption that the plant would use 350 gallons of water per processed animal and they processed 350 cows a dav the plant would use 50000- 000 gallons of water per year At $1 35 per thousand gallons that would equal $67500 If the plant only used 40000- 000 at $135 per thousand gallons the city would net $54000 "1 believe it is in the city's eco- nomic favor to support this proposal" said Councilman Rod Taylor The water would come from what is referred to as the Bartholomew Well Currently the city uses less than 30 percent of it's water shares Mayor Steve Buchanan said the money earned through the sale of the water would go a long way to help with future water projects or even exploring another source The “Olympic Volunteer Stories Wanted by
