Have you completed your lists of who gets what who's been good and bad or naughty and nice? Or like my list who needs what Sometimes Christmas gives me a good excuse to replace my kid's holey socks and paper thin underwear My children's wants are on the bottom of the list I start with needs! Practical things like: a bike lock dresser drawers or a new mattress a new scout uniform a new coat or new blankets for everyone's bed Or for me and my husband: a new snow shovel a new calendar or planner a waffle Lon (to replace the broken one) or new wooden spoons or dish towels so I can throw away the disgusting old ones These are thing we need and I'll have to purchase anyway My kids get good stuff chemistry sets CD Rom encyknow clopedia a microscope--yoeducational advancing things Real fun things that they will run home from school to play with When our eldest boys were little they begged for Castle Grey Skull and figures We thought it was a phase and put off buying any However they were persistent and we nally gave in after about 2 years of constant whining Well go figure! The boys played with those toys nonstop for months They never tired of them and of out they stayed my hair upstairs playing and playing Why didn't we get them sooner? After they grew tired of them (a couple of years later) we passed them onto a younger cousin who also got a lot of enjoyment from them Lists do require some shopping Sometimes I enjoy shopping but it isn't fun to shop under pressure Pressure-to get it all -- or what is left on the list --or something else because you can't find that certain item you had planned on purchasin- g- or shopping and you have no idea what you are looking for but it needs to be perfect We went to Provo for the BYU game last weekend The boys in our family went to the game and my daughter and I went shopping We got an early dose of messy holiday crowds The traffic was congested and the stores were packed I just needed 6 pairs of jeans and a couple of shirts I took me all afternoon and into the I had tired feet and was evening grumpy in the end I remember why I stay in the valley to shop and order what I can't find here from the catalog The only holiday shopping I truly enjoy is window shopping one evening during the holidays with the family We visit temple square in Salt Lake to see all the lights and stop to see the ZCMI window decorations We bundle up walk slow and stand back and watch frantic shoppers cross mothers bored fathers giggling teenage girls cool strutting teenage boys and excited children with eyes frill of -- greed It is getting time to humble the children "We can't afford that!" and "Your father andor mother would never let you have that" or "Are you crazy" or "What do think we are? Made of money?" We can always use "You'd better be good!" Hey just remind them they need new socks! “Off the Top" is the product of Lori’s rambling and often disjointed thoughts This conversational style piece does not reflect the opinion of this newspaper Write Lori with your unique holiday gift ideas to: PO Box 89 Gunnison Utah 84634 or your clever ideas to: news ©gtelconews It froze last night they 're forecasting snow We checked another on their waiting list They said a few weeks maybe a month It 's Thanksgiving This month we celebrate Thanksgivings time to gather with our families and enjoy good food and good friends-time to reminisce and think of the many things we are thankful for - This year as in recent years past many of Utah’s families will not sit down in a comfortable home to Turkey dinner Some do not have a home at all Others will not be able to afford the food many of us take for granted New Horizons Crisis Center is here to aid the victims of homelessness but it needs help Monetary or food donations could go a long way to help see that everyone in area can have our Thanksgiving dinner in a warm room Please help us help them by calling New Horizons Crisis Center at or or bring donations to the Center at 145 E 100 N Richfield Let’s work together to make sure that everyone can still have hope this Thanksgiving Aurora news Cindy flndrgqson Members of our community have been in mourning over the loss of loved ones in recent weeks Leota Nordfelt Sorenson 85 of Salt Lake City passed away in October She was the sister of Fern Shaw Sandie Tatum 65 of Delta Colorado died of a heart attack She was the mother of Steve Tatum Rex Dennis Huntsman passed away November 6 996 after a long battle with cancer and Impressive funeral services were held on November 11 with burial in the Richfield City Cemetery The community extends their sympathy to the families and friends who are grieving Aurora’s LDS First Ward reports that Brian and Laurie Burrows were released as Ward Preparation Representatives Mandy Larsen daughter of Gayland and Debbie Larsen Brittany Sorenson daughter of Dr Barry and Cindy Sorenson and Patricia Huntsman daughter of Lynn and Rhonda received their Young Huntsman Women of Truth recognitions and cer- 529-358- 4 Allison Hales Company of Salina welcome fiSut taawfr LIZ VALLE 1st Yeav daughter of Kendall and Brenda Hales was baptized and confirmed by her father She was presented with a Book of Mormon by the bishopric Beau Johnson was baptized and confirmed by his grandfather Burke Johnson He was presented with a Book of Mormon by the bishopric Larry Cosby was released as 2nd Counselor in the Sunday School and Kim Sanders was called to fill that position Gayland Larsen was called as the Assistant Executive Secretary The infant son of Darron and Cindy Andreason was blessed and Darron given the name Jayde Andreason by his uncle Derek Andreason Their older son Jarred Andreason graduated from Primary and was ordained a Deacon in the Aaronic priesthood Several friends and family members were there to help make the day even more special Gordon Johnson was called as a member of the High Council His wife Angela and parents Jerold and Billie Lou are very proud of him 528-373- MLS Equal Housing 2Utah 5 Free Jazz Posters One Per Family (Driver Age Only) Santaquin Welicious Apple when you drop in to say "Hi!
