City schedules Special Public Meeting Ihc Gunnison City Council will hold a special with their associated to discuss problems lagoons and cell number one The December 16 meeting is being held to determine what they can do with a foot or so of sludge that has built up in the number one sewer lagoon cell The newer lagoons have been built six feet deep with five feet usable depth while this older cell is only three feet dec p and has a foot of build up in the bottom making thi - cell unacceptable for future usage without modifi-ca- t ons The council will look at alternatives such as cleaning the sludge out and then rclining the pond with a clay the sludge on the bottom and lining Or compressing then placing a new clay lining on top Another alternative would be to discontinue use of the pond The pond has to have a minimum of three feet depth to be usable meeting sever in the future If the sludge is removed and used as a land applicaIcrtilicr then it must be tested for some organic inorganic pollutants as well as coliforms If the sludge is removed and relocated to another lagoon cell this testing would not be required will also be invited to the meeting A representative These problems will have to be from Centerfield resolved prior to the regionaliation board of the new sewer lagoons will take over operation and maintenance for the lagoon complex made up of contracts to local attorneys who submitted the low bids Douglas Neeley who recently passed the bar was awarded a $16000 contract to serve as Sanpete public defender for Central Utah Correctional Facility at Gunnison indigent who are charged with a variety of offenses Paul Frischknecht who had previously served as public legal defender for both prison and county indigent was awarded a $23499 contract for serving as public defender for county indigent charged with offenses In both situations Sanpete County Attorney Ross Blackham serves as the prosecuting attorney The cases are heard in Sixth District Court over which Judge David Mower and Don Tibbs preside The two district judges determine which offenders are indigent and therefore legally entitled to the services of the public
