Local Supporters of Mike Leavitt Paul Dyreng Bruce King 4-- H Youth do well at State Meet that a good citizen is willing to take the time to learn and to get involved I should admit that when my husband and I pass out material on doorsteps or volunteer for a phone bank or even put a candidates’ sign on our lawn our kids think we’re a little strange (Then again I should admit that they think we’re a little it isn’t election when even strange season) But I like to think that deep inside they’re learning that the right to choose our leaders the right to vote is something we should never take for granted It’s something worth 9 bit of effort It’s something good citizens just do Sanpete stu- - Five Sanpete County youth garnered honors at the recent Utah State Horse Show for individuals Over three hundred youth (including 12 from Sanpete County) across the State competed in three Each age group had six age groups classes for competition as well as a test comprehensive In the “A Group” yrs old) Misty Myrup daughter of Mrand Mrs Gary Myrup Gunnison place 2nd in the Halter class In the “B Group” yrs old) Shaun Tree son of Mr and Mrs Richard Tree Mt Pleasant place4th in the Snaffle Bit class This is a class for horse 4 yrs and under that have not been trained by a professional trainer and have not been shown in competition previously In “C” Group yrs old) two Jamie Myrup youth placed well daughter of Mr and Mrs Gary Myrup (Gunnison) and Mr and Mrs Scott Dclecuw (Manti) place 4th in Equitation and 6th in All Around Judged Events The State Horse Show is extremely Sanpete County can be competitive extremely proud of the performance of these and all of our State Horse Show representatives Snow's Building Department receives boost The Snow College Building Construction department was recently treated to lunch in Provo where they received a check for $15000 from the Utah Valley Homebuilders Association The money will be used to provide an endowed scholarship fund for the department Building Construction Professor Russ Mendcnahall says the money is more than just financial help for the students “This is quite a compliment to our program The association chose to do thissimply because they felt we have an excellent program and wanted to out” Mendenhall continued gave $30000 to the Utah help “they Valley Community College a few years ago and now they split that same amount between us and Brigham Young That’s a big program University with a lot of students faculty and facilities And for the association to treat us the same as BYU is really nice praise” The Snow College program was involved with the Utah Valley Homebuilders last year when they built the playhouse that was put on display at the associations Parade of Homes The endowment money should provide at least one full scholarship or several partial awards for studcms in the years to come The construction students also do some part time work for private citizens to make money for their club The group is currently raffling off a cedar chest to raise money which will help them attend the NAHB National Convention this spring in Las Vegas During the first week of November the Utah Symphony will perform public evening concerts and education in concerts Central and Southern Utah and Nevada The evening classical programs conducted by Maestro Joseph will include Beethoven’s Lconore Overture No 3 and Symphony No 2 as well as Liszt’s Symphonic Poem No 6 “Mazeppa” and Weber’s Overture to Euryanthc Also as a result of generous funding from the Utah State Legislature the Symphony is able to perform 55 education oriented concerts each year in schools throughout Utah reaching approximately 55000 students These concerts introduce students to a live classical music experience The education concerts on this tour will be attended by school children from the South Sanpete Sevier Wayne Iron and Washington school districts and will feature 50 minute programs designed foi young listeners NovemDeparting on Monday ber 2 the Orchestra travels to Manti where it will perform the first of its education concerts at Manti High School That evening Maestro Joseph Silverstcin will lead the Orchestra in a concert at North Sevier High School inSalina The concert begins at 7:30 pm Tickets for the evening performances will be available at the door that Pot of Gold!!
