Jack Peterson stated that the reason for the petition was to let the Town Council know that they had some concerns about the project and they wanted those concerns heard Jack then stated that the Town Council had held a meeting on August 27 1991 and heard the concerns and had agreed to do what they could about them The Mayor then stated that the ten citizens filing the suit against the Town had agreed to drop the suit and the Town had also agreed to the drop its suit against those ten citizens Mayor Draper stated that a copy answers to the citizens concerns will be mailed to each household in Centerfield when the information is completely gathered and of the compiled A citizen asked if the connection fee is free? The answer was “no” there will be a stub to connect to Water Tank Land Councilman Town had done the Town does land around the Deed Stilt stated that the a title search and have title for the old water tank Dog Catcher Mayor Draper stated that we have the continuing problem of dogs running loose and he feels we need to control them Mayor Draper stated that he and Councilwoman Rasmussen had approached Frank Roberts to see if he would be interested in being the dog catcher for the Town However Mayor Draper stated that he has one concern Continued on page 3 Gunnison City Election ends in tie Banquet for football team will be held The Primary election for Gunnison ended with a tie the sixth name that will be placed on the November ballot Linda Malmgren was the top vote getter with 159 Mark Pickett was next with 115 votes and Steven Buchanan followed with 107 The other two known candidates for the election will be Marilyn Hatch and Marshall Sorensen who received 99 and 98 votes respec- The Gunnison High Valley School Football Banquet will be October 16 at held on Wednesday 7:30 pm in the Gunnison High School commons area All junior and varsity football players and their parents are vited to attend tively The tie breaker will be held after an official canvas is taken where the judges marks are counted and the ballots are recounted and matched with the judge's disposition of ballot claims from the original election The poll book is checked along with absentee votes received If it is still tied after these checks the council will act as the judges and all tabulations Scott and Richard will be present during the recount and if still tied the council will draw lots to determine This will have taken the winner 5 99 place on T uesday October Election Totals: 159 Linda Malmgren 115 Mark Pickett 107 Steven Buchanan 99 Marilyn Hatch 98 Marshall Sorensen 83 Richard Dyreng 83 Scott Hermansen 68 Kent Worthington 59 Forrest Hill 25 Mark Coates Top six will be put on the November ballot DEAM A LITTLE: Bagging a big buck like this one is the dream of every hunterwho will be DWR heading for the hills this Saturday as the 1991 General Deer Hunt gets underway officer Fred Pannunzio says it will take the cooperation of all hunters to see that there are If in we come no deer wasted or taken illegally He adds that we work together may years to be able to be hunting big bucks like the one pictured are fewer bucks this "There year" says DWR Conservation Officer Fred Pannunzio October 19 1991 Saturday marks the opening of Utah’s General Rifle Deer Hunt with a lower than average success predicted for the state Unfortunately the prediction will likely hold true for our area total deer numbers are down with buck numbers low also Several dry and hole growth on summejs summer and winter plants for the deer has taken its toll Hopefully we are starting out of this drought and different management type hunts will help bring our deer herds back It is expected that a large number of hunters will be in the field Be sure to pick up a 1991 Utah Big Game Proclamation at any license agent’s business to find out all the rules areas seasons etc Changes & Reminders One of the big changes this year is the new Trespass Law which states: If ground is properly posted you must have written permission to be on it The definition of a legal buck has also changed It now says its antlers must be longer than its ears We’ve had many problems during all the hunts with loaded this is not guns in or on a vehicle - but it is illegal only dangerous "Keep in mind too that you must detach and validate your tag at the time and place of kill Transporting a deer may only be done by the person who har - DWR officer vested the deer The deer or parts may not be donated in the field "Evidence of sex must be left atiached to the carcass of the deer while being transported "Remember that deer tags and muzzleloader permits will not be sold after October 18 1991 The most important j art of all to me is for hunters to obey the lawsand help police ourown ranks Our deer numbers are way low for whatever reason It’s up to us hunters to help in any way we can Buck numbers aren’t sufficient to justify shooting every buck deer you see just to fill a tag wasting spotlighting party hunting etc The deer need some help If you see these serious violations or any others Call local please get involved Utah Highway Patrol Dispatch Sheriffs Office local Conservation officer or the DWR Help Stop Hotline Poaching Know the law before hunting Be at least 14 years of age or turn 14 during the calendar year of the hunt If under 16 years of age be accompanied by parent legal guardian approved responsible person age 21 or older Present proof of satisfactorily passing an approved Hunter Education Course if bom after December 31 1965 Obtain and have in possession the proper valid license permits and lags oeiore engaging in any hunting or taking of big game During the hunt a big game hunter must: Exhibit and allow inspection of any required license permit or or any tag any hunting equipment wildlife in his possession when offirequested by a conservation cer or any other peace officer Hunt and take big game only during daylight hours one half hour before official sunrise to one half hour after official sunset Wear a minimum total of 400 square inches of hunter orange on his head chest and back while hunting It is unlawful for a big game hunter to: Lend transfer sell give or assign any license permit or tag to any other person Apply for or obtain any cense permit or tag which he is not entitled During the hunt it is unlawful for big game hunters to: Take more than one of any big game species during a license year except as otherwise provided by code or proclamation Possess big game or parts of them without an accompanying validated tag permit and appropriate license Hunt or pursue game wiLh tag detached from license or permit Notch more than one month day or sex of animal or to mutilate the tag Centerfield Sewer System is a go Centerfield Town Council members and mayor received the go ahead from the Community Impact Board on their plans to convert the town from septic tanks and cesspools to a collected sewer system with New streets in Gunnison Two miles of streets in Gunnison have been completed during the past few days The roads that were completed are 3rd South going East 2nd South going West 3rd North going West 5th South going East and 1st East going North They also chipped other roads in town for $50000 worth of work Hales Sand and Gravel received the bid with a bid much lower than others lagoons In a meeting in Salt Lake last week two groups of Centerfield citizens appeared before the CIB with concerns being voiced for and against the project The board heard first from Walt Baker from the Utah Water Pollution board and he presented the health related to Centerfield’s problems present individualized septic tank system He explained the problems of the porous soil in Centerfield that allows the waste water to enter the water table in an impure condition The board then asked those present questions about the project and had Centerfield met all of the loan and grant requirements A recent survey along with the original straw poll was shown to the board with the most recent count showing 58 percent of the water connections in Centerfield being in favor of the project This count amounts to one vote per household After these quesuons were answered the floor was turned to Allen Frandsen who proceeded to claim that a bond election needed to take place before the project would be legal Also he and others present talked of the hard ship it would place on the fixed income families as well as the deterrent this project would have on uturc growth in Centerfield After reviewing the payment schedule per household the board voiced their opinion that the overall payments in Centerfield for utilities were below average for the stale It was also explained that for those families with hardships work could be done for a minimal fee from the town Also there were avenues for grant and low interest loans to qualifying home owners for sewer s stem preparation costs From here the board voted to approve the money requested by the town and gave their blessing to get the project started as soon as they could The town still has some rights of way to settle but they hope to be ready to let out bids within the next sixty days |
