notification that the Utah Slate Library commission recommended to their board that the Gunnison Library become a State Certified Public Library it was one of 33 public libraries in the state to receive this honor which has taken four years to earn The library has received beautiful framed certificate signifying it as such and signed by Governor Norman Bangerter Calvin Korwal-li- s president Utah State Library Board and Any Owen Director Utah State Library Division There were 35 libraries given provisionally Certified Public Library Service status and one was assigned Public Reading Room status The library has been judged on several levels to receive certification such as: qualifications of its librarian governance (library board) materials funding housing hours (20 open hours per week minimum) and services A collection development policy has been written Mrs concerning book collections Gregerson has set and completed goals each year a mission statement was written and two areas that the library would like to excel in was chosen The library board decided on its Primary Role to be a Children’s Door to Learning which means the library encourages young children to develop an interest in reading and learning through services for children and for parents and children together The secondary Role(s) included that of being a Popular Library where the library features current high interest materials in a variety of formats for person of all and community ages Activity Center the library is a central focus activities point for community meetings and services The budget int he state and yet the circulation of books was third to the highest among the eight libraries Now the library’s hours arc with the majority of comparable the others its sic at 20 open hours
