r i H our readers flSv Former Sheriff has obtained official documents as proof Dear Editor: Sheriff Buchanan is print recently denied my claim that he was over budget last year One of us is therefore not telling the truth Taking the Sheriff’s advice I obtained certified copies of official county documents from the County auditor’s Office and they show the following: The approved budget for the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Department for 1989 was $580027 In December 1989 the county Commissioners had to make "adjustments” to that approved budget in the amount of $26900 to cover Sheriff Buchanan’s over expendiIn 1989 Sheriff Buchanan tures spent $60658935 and was therefore over budget by exactly Buchanan was over budget I leave it to your readers to judge for themselves I also claimed the county was over budget by $23000 in 1989 The July 11 1990 issue of The Pyramid quotes Sanpete County Auditor Jay Alder as saying that the county had finished 1989 ap$23000 over the proximately General Fund Expenditure Budget If this was true then Sheriff Buchanan caused it by being over his budget The fact that our taxes arc being raised by 66 is a matter of public record Now that the true facts are known let the voters decide on November 6th if truthfulness is a quality needed in t he Chief Law Enforcement I believe Officer of this county that it is $2656235 I have provided the editor of this newspaper with copies of these These same official documents to the are available documents that Having proven public Sincerely Chuck Ramsey Former Sheriff of Sanpete County Present Candidate for Sheriff of Sanpete County were laid "The Original Townships out" says Avard Ottosen Dear Editor: In order to write a land title deed to set apart a right of way or to fence a boundary line a description of the property should be made by way of a land survey When the US Government calls for their original comer stones along the East boundary line of Township 18 South Range 2 East of the Salt for Lake Base and Meridian by using a metal comer marker then land properties can be accurately and legally identified in both the Sterling and Manti areas This should be done before it is lost to posterity The original Townships were laid out and then the section quarter section and closing comers were established within the bounds of the Townships They have a rock monument with the rock having prescribed notches letters and numbers on the edges and sides indicating the location of the sections in the Townships together with bearing trees The field notes given information as to the location of that rock both in direction and distance from the bearing trees The township line which divides 18 and 19 South Range 2 and 3 East of the Salt Lake Base and Meridian were surveyed between 1856 and 19 19 by Chet Mogo Augustus D Ferron Edward W Koeber Adolphe Jessen and Miller & Hayes The Forest Service and the Utah State The Bureau of Land Management Division of Wildlife and Water Resources have sent letters to me in the do surveys different to They want to continue people past authorizing this practice with which I heartily agree The EWP Engineering Company came to me several times for the Department of Wildlife Resources Land comers - but without a letter Brad Bradley to get the Finally the EWP sent the Game Warden I strongly recommended that he have a location of the BLM comers letter from the Department of Wildlife resources Department Office and also take pictures of the BLM stones and the area which surrounds the stones Brad has the rest of the story When Pete Conover Max Otten and myself found that the EWP’s we wrote and signed a statement metal corners planted on our properties then called the Sheriff’s Office Deputy Bruce Tidwell answered the call He took pictures of both the EWJP’s and the BLM’s with his camera The Deputy said he would give a copy of the certified stone corners written investigation and signed statement together with the pictures to each of the following County Offices: The Sheriff’s Office The Recorders Office The County Commission and the County Attorney He said he would also provide a copy to the Sate Office of the BLM Glen Bruce has Hatch (BLM) said he received the pictures and documents the rest of the story Due to friendships politics and special interest groups there has been a buildup of new Section comers in certain locations where the instigators of these new survey placements would lend to benefit If there are challenges as to the exact location of the BLm Surveys I have documented proof in the way of original maps plats and field notes done by the US Government in this area together with all the The actual proof of location can be seen in the way of a field inspection comers where original posts rocks and together with “chopped” lines bearing trees etc can be viewed and measurements can be taken At the request of the chief surveyor of the US Department of Interior I furnished him with section quarter section and closing corners so he can This should clear make a survey of the Old Sanpete Indian Reservation things up for him “Glen Hatch” as it did for the Forest “Ben Black” and “Brad Bradley” when I gave them the Division of Wildlife Resources their comers It is now in the hands of Sanpete County and the US Department of Interior -
